First Whales, First Chinook - A Florida

Resumo da Viagem

Some mornings write themselves. Erick came up from Florida and got the full Campbell River welcome - the very first whales he's ever seen, right off the bow at dawn, and then a chrome bright 15 lb Chinook to seal the deal. His first ever. Hooked for life. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Air temp 19°C, a few clouds, light easterly wind at 8 km/h laying down to near calm. Seas a metre or less, closer to flat, with clear 10 km visibility and no fog. We ran out on the 6 AM departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, a nimble classic that puts you right on the fish. We trolled hoochies behind flashers down the main channel of Discovery Passage, downriggers at 200 feet, with the Purple truck doing the damage. The bite lined up with the Seymour Narrows slack before flood at 9:49 AM - one kept and four released across the morning, all healthy chrome fish. Water temp 17.9°C had them active. Solunar rating was Good and the major feeding window fell right on that slack. Most Chinook this season run 12 to 16 lbs, with a shot at a trophy 30-plus. Erick's 15-pounder was a beauty. Captain Trevor runs laid-back, friendly trips - perfect for first timers and beginners. Three departures daily at 6am, 11am, and 4pm, out of Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at Tyee Plaza. Spots filling fast for August. Book at **hidden content**
