The silver fiish are still biting, Steel

Hello, I was fortunate enough to take three ladies from the Colorado houndsmen assoc fishing on May 17th. We ran north of Belmont Harbor Chicago (where I moore the boat), locating colder surface water. We set in north of Wilimette harbor where there was a big drop in temps. We caught a 3 person limit of 11 coho along with 4 beautiful Rainbow Trout. The largest each of the 3 ladies had ever caught. Various Stubby dodgers red, orange, fire dot along with various peanut flys worked well. The Rainbow trout hit surfice lures thin fins red w black squiggleys. Overall a great trip, we fished 25-45 feet of water from 2.5 to 3 mph.

There isn't much cool water left near shore nor near the surface near shore. We are having to go offshore at least 7-8 miles to get to 100 feet of water to find the preferred temp ranges where the fish like to live. Lake trout near bottom and hopefully some silvers suspended inbetween. Flasher / dodgers fly or spin n glo;s are working near bottom. Silver fish with UV and white glo or white pink dot and also green and yellow are working. Grease traps mountain dew with matching spin in glo have been great as well. Alot of captains are going slow to get these bites but 1 or more only fish for Lake trout. I like to fish for your complete limit of 2 lake trout and 3 silver fish, salmon rainbow and brown. There are some suspeded silver fish 45-50 to bottom and even a few early morning feeders up higher. We get a good rod spread out and cover the water column. C'mon fishing today. We won the "Fish This" tournament Saturday July 19th, out of Montrose harbor beating a field of both charter boats and private fisherman. Rules were to fish a dnr 3 man limit catching 15 fish and weighing only the largest 10 silver fish (King & Coho Salmon, Rainbow & Brown Trout). There was a side bet for anyone wishing to keep Lake Trout, only weigh one. I believe we were the only boat to bring in 15 fish (13 silvers 2 Lake Trout). The fish are biting between 80-135 feet of water (fow). Various spoons, flasher flies, plugs and cut bait was working. We landed and weighed 6 King Salmon (5 four yr olds & 1 three yr old), 2 Rainbow Trout and 2 Coho Salmon. We also landed 2 smaller Rainbows and 1 smaller coho. Today is July 28 and the big Kings are still around and the Lake Trout bite is going crazy. Get out here and book a trip today, fishing has rarely been better.
