There's a toilet on board for your convenience. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you. Live bait is available, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
There will be a First Mate on board to help your trip run smoothly. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
You will need to purchase a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
You can't go wrong when you bring sunscreen (non-spray), and sunglasses. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. They charged us a ton of money and let the big sailfish go before everyone in our crew even got to see it. We had caught a smaller Wahoo fish that they had brought into the boat and prepared for us to take home and eat which was awesome, but they didn’t explain that they wouldn’t be bringing the big sailfish into the boat like the last fish, so we were waiting for them to pull it into the boat and they just let it go before we could see it. Also the boat advertised in the pictures when we booked this trip was WAY nicer and more comfortable looking to accommodate the 9 people we had in our group. The boat we got was older and crowded and uncomfortable. We had to keep people down below where you can’t see anything to be able let everyone have a seat. Communication was poor and expectations not met. Not worth what we paid. :(
