If you're ready to get hooked on fishing in Erie, look no further than Mapalad Sport Fishing. Having logged many hours on Lake Erie, Captain Jay can tell you all about the local fishery.
Depending on the season, you might hook into Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Walleye, and anything else that bites. You can expect to troll for your catch.
Your vessel for the day is a spacious 29' Baha Sport Fish Hardtop with plenty of room for up to 4 passengers comfortably. We are family friendly and have children's PFD's (50-90lb). It is equipped with downriggers, planer boards, electronics all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a private toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are provided.
There will be a First Mate on board to help your trip run smoothly. Mate works for tips and its customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.
You need to purchase a PA fishing license with a Trout/Lake Erie permit before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain.
A few items to bring include sunglasses, sunblock (non-spray snacks, and bottled water in a small cooler. A cooler and ice for your catch. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask (please no large coolers). Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. Please take motion sickness medicine per instructions prior to your departure time.

We were fortunate to have 3 generations of our family fish with Mapalad on Lake Erie. This was the ultimate experience for my 13 year old son and a memorable Father’s Day weekend for all of us. My son came in second with a 23” walleye, second to his uncle’s 28”! We couldn’t have had a more capable captain and first mate. They were very knowledgeable and very personable. I imagine we will make this a yearly tradition with Mapalad!
Corey,we really enjoyed fishing with your family. Brian and I look forward to family trips. To see all 3 generations spending time together and making lifelong memories is what it’s all about. Hope to see you guys again. Thanks for your support. Jay
This first time experience was amazing, thanks to Jay and Brian ! They all caught their limits and had a great time doing it. I especially appreciate Jay helping my husband, who’s 81, keep his footing! Will definitely book with Jay and Brian again.

Both of us had a fantastic time catching our limit of walleye. Capt. Jay and First Mate Brian are professional, friendly, and very happy to share their knowlege about the lake, the fish that live in it, and how to catch them. We left for home with several large freezer bags filled with fillets and cheeks and made a fantastic meal out of some of it later that evening. We highly recomend booking a trip with Mapalad.

Captain Joe and Tony were fantastic. Booked last minute and they did not disappoint. Both were very attentive and you can tell they love there jobs. Took my 7 year old daughter out for the first time and they were attentive and great to her and their instructions. Limited out in 2 hrs but either way there are no bad days on the water. We know now who to call for Lake Erie

We had a fabulous day out on Lake Erie with Captain Jay and his first mate on Mapalad, Sport Fishing. We were able to catch our limit for the day. At the end of the trip, all the fish were cleaned and packed in ice for us. The trip exceeded our expectations. We were the last excursion for the season. We will be booking a trip for 2026!

I grew up in Erie on the water. Went to school here and worked 43 years for a local company that makes heavy duty forging equipment. Spent the last 20 years traveling the world installing and working on machines. I went fishing every chance I got when I was home. I was able to retire in 2024 and with the support of family and friends started my path to become a charter captain. In 2025 I obtained my Captains license . With my co-captain Brian Franklin we started chartering in the summer of 2025. My dad was an avid duck hunter and fisherman. So naturally I followed in his footsteps. I want to share the lessons learned from fishing with other Captain's, friends and family. Lake Erie has a lot to offer and would like others to enjoy it as I have for many years. The name Mapalad is Filipino and means blessed or fortunate which I have been in life. Let's go fishing!
