Speckled Trout, Redfish, Yellowtail Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Snook, Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Lemon Shark, and more are in the cards if you come at the right time of year. For these species, you're likely to spin using light tackle.
Families making a day of it will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Also remember to bring snacks to ward off any mid-trip fatigue!
Capt. Travis welcomes you aboard a 24' Shallow Sport flats boat with space for 5 passengers. It has all the essentials. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
There's no need to buy a fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Some fish have special regulations, including when you can keep them. Your captain will help you follow regulations while you fish.
All you need to bring is sunglasses and a good attitude. Waters will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles as NO GLASS is allowed on board.

Nice time with Capt. Travis

fishing a bit slow, but we caught mangrove snappers, hit a school of snook, sharks in the area making it a bit hard but captain was very attentive and patient.
we hooked a spinner shark which was exciting. Trip best for friends or family. Easy communication with Travis, he was prompt and had plenty of bait before trip started so we had plenty of time to fish. Nice boat, fully stocked amd plenty of room would book again!

Everglades Light-Tackle Experience

Captain Travis provides an absolutely amazing light-tackle fishing experience. From the start, he’s extremely responsive and takes the time to ask what you want to do before the trip. He truly tailors the day around your goals and skill level.
The Everglades is an absolute playground, with tons of light-tackle species available year-round. His boat, Shallow Water Sport, is a fishing machine—cruising around 35 mph in as little as 6 inches of water. Honestly, the ride through Everglades National Park alone was worth the cost of the trip, even if we never touched a rod.
The boat is very roomy with a stable hull, allowing multiple people to fish comfortably at the same time. Captain Travis genuinely enjoys putting his customers on fish, runs hard when it counts, and isn’t afraid to try new techniques or locations to make the day successful. Most importantly, he teaches along the way—sharing the techniques and styles that have worked for him. Unless your a seasoned very you will leave a better angler than when you arrived.
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, passionate captain who delivers a top-tier Everglades fishing experience, you won’t be disappointed. 🎣

First Redfish, Shark Catch & an Unforgettable Day with Captain Travis

We had an absolutely incredible time fishing with Captain Travis in the backcountry off Islamorada. This trip was beyond anything we expected.
I caught my first redfish, which we cooked for Christmas Eve, along with seven mangrove snapper—all amazing fish. We also caught some jackfish, which Captain Travis helped us use to hook a shark, and that experience was unforgettable.
Captain Travis truly went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. He is incredibly down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and more than willing to accommodate. From start to finish, he made us feel safe, confident, and comfortable, and it was clear we were in excellent hands the entire trip.
My fiancé and I highly recommend Captain Travis to anyone looking for an authentic, exciting, and memorable fishing experience in the Keys.

Fantastic Experience Highly Recommend!

I recently had the chance to take my two sons (ages 19 and 16), both avid mid-level anglers, out with Capt. Travis Camacho. Before the trip, we asked to target specific species, and Capt. Travis delivered—taking us to precise spots to make it happen. The day was a huge success: we landed over 30 fish, visited multiple locations, and enjoyed every moment. Capt. Travis was courteous, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist when needed. I would absolutely book with A Fishing Guru again on my next trip to Islamorada!

Great Experience

Capt. Travis is a great captain and did his job, put us on fish. We had two young boys with us who had a blast catching black drum, mangrove snapper, and ladyfish. Travis was very knowlegable and provides a great service with quality gear to use. We wouldn’t think twice about booking with him again in the future.
