Fishing In Tahoe is here to show you the stunning waters of South Lake Tahoe. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Andrew knows them forwards and back.
These waters are known for Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Sockeye Salmon, and more – with any luck, they'll make your reel scream. On these trips, you can expect to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle.
You'll be casting lines from a 33' Donzi center console with space for 6 passengers. It comes with downriggers, and all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Andrew will supply rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
Before coming aboard, it will be required to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
It's always wise to bring sunscreen (non-spray), sunglasses, and bottled water. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Although we did catch fish and on top of that, we caught our limit of 5 Salmon each, they were very small and averaged around 8" to 10". I do wish we could've moved around a little bit more to try and catch much larger species of fish that Lake Tahoe has to offer. We were using corn on very small bait hooks for the troll fishing we were doing. I even would've liked to try different kinds of live bait and maybe perhaps experimented with the size of hooks a little bit more. Even if we attempted to use one of the reels that were available to us in the same location we were havingg success, I think that would've even worked for me too.

During the summer season, target species like Kokanee salmon congregate in dense, localized schools at specific depths, which makes small hooks and corn on a precise troll the most effective method for filling limits. That said, we completely understand your desire to experiment with larger setups, live bait, and targeting Lake Tahoe's bigger fish. If you're looking for that heavy-tackle experience, we strongly recommend booking a trip in the fall or winter. During these cooler months, our primary target shifts to Mackinaw (Lake Trout), where we routinely use live bait and heavier gear to go after the trophy-sized fish Lake Tahoe is famous for. It's a completely different style of fishing that offers the variety, movement, and larger species you were hoping to target. We'd love to welcome you and your crew back aboard during the cooler season for a shot at those big Lake Trout!
