    Great trip!

Captain Shawn is a great angler. He knows his way around. He made it easy for us. We were definitely comfortable on his boat. He was great and would return.

    (6 Hour Trip – Multi-species (PM))

    Great trip

Ryan is knowledgeable of the waterways and was accommodating for a senior fisherman. Initially the weather looked bleak but cleared up in a hurry and we were on the water catching fish on our first casts. We were targeting multiple species, with a combination of artificials and live bait. We caught plenty of small mouth, pike, and reeled in a bowfin and pickerel.

    (6 Hour Trip – Multi-species (PM))

    Absolute Professional

Fishing was slow but he moved us numerous places, tried numerous methods and never quit until we hit the fish. We caught several species and learned a lot of fishing tips that he was sure to share the whole time. He was great with my 13 year old son, would 100% recommend.

    (3/4 Day Trip – Pike/ Bass/ Walleye)

Captain Healy goes above and beyond what you expect. He was a teacher as well as a guide. High marks!

Very nice day on the water; I would highly recommend Cap’n Michael Healy as he made the day that much more enjoyable.

Rarely sought after despite its strong fighting ability, the Bowfin is an under-appreciated freshwater sportfish that originates from the Jurassic Period. The only surviving member of the Amiiformes family, the Bowfin can gulp air directly from the surface into its air bladder, which effectively works as a lung. And able to survive in unusually high temperatures, this fish can be found in waters that most other species can't tolerate. Catch one, and you will be holding a living fossil.

Bowfin are rarely sought-after for food as their meat is fairly bland with a poor texture. They can be good if they are cleaned properly and smoked or fried into fishcakes. Their relatively poor flavor is redeemed by their quality as a sport fish, however: Bowfin give a better fight than most fish their size. Just be sure to watch out for their sharp teeth when you bring them out of the water!

The species is native to the southeast of the USA, inhabiting the area from St Lawrence River to the north, south to the Gulf Coast, and between eastern Texas to the whole of Florida.
