	Sailfish are cosmopolitan, spread across tropical and subtropical zones of all oceans up to between 40 and 50&deg; N and around 35&deg; S. They thrive in warm temperate waters between 70 and 83&deg;F, so, in the northern and southern extremes, they will only be found during the warmest months.

	Sailfish spawn mostly during the summer, from May to September, so one peak&nbsp;season will normally be around the middle of this time frame, in July. Eastern Atlantic Sailfish will also have a seasonal migration southwards to warmer waters starting around November and lasting through February, so this is another great time to target them. Having these best times in mind,&nbsp;Sailfishing is usually good year-round wherever they&#39;re present.

	How to catch</h2>

	Sailfish are mostly hooked by fast trolling. Artificial options include various plastic lures, feathers or spoons. Jigs and poppers are also used with success. Seeing as the fish mainly feeds close to the surface, options like kite fishing and fly fishing are wide open as well.

	Natural bait is prefered though, and it can be live, dead or cut (strips are actually optimal, as they fold great in the mouth of the fish). If live or dead, whole mullet, ballyhoo or any small local fish will do the trick&nbsp;(if dead, make sure they are hooked so they look alive when trolled in the water). Strips can be taken from mullet, bonito, mahi, mackerel and similar fish.

	A &quot;dropback&quot; technique should be applied for best results - this means feeding line to the Sailfish once spotted approaching the bait. Free spool should be allowed until the point when it&#39;s certain that the bait has been taken (when the line is being taken rapidly). Then set the drag, allow a couple of seconds until there&#39;s no more slack, set the hook and get ready for a fight. Like with all aerial fish, remember to&nbsp;&quot;bow&quot;&nbsp;your rod once they leap into the air - lower the tip to give slack and reduce pressure on the line.

	Sailfish are acrobatic creatures prone to spectacular jumps during which they violently shake their heads or skip across the water surface using their tails - tail-walking. However, they tire quickly and do not require very heavy tackle. This is why Sailfishing might be perceived as an intro to Marlin fishing.&nbsp;

	Types of Trips</h3>

	Most anglers come here with one target in mind – the Blue Marlin. They reach 700 lb on average in these waters, although granders of over 1,000 lb Marlin have been caught here. You can find them here year-round, but come between October and May for the best chances of reeling one in. As you usually need to travel 15-25 miles from shore to chase this fish, 8 hour charters are the best value.

	These longer trips will also see you targeting White Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, and the delicious Mahi Mahi close to the Gulf Stream and past the drop-off. Yellowfin Tuna here can reach sizes up to 200 lb, but don't be surprised if yours is smaller than that!

	If you book a shorter trip, you'll be able to target Barracuda, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna over the continental shelf, 8-16 miles from shore. Kingfish, Jack Crevalle, and Wahoo are even closer to the shore. These trips are good for kids and new anglers.

	Looking for something new? Try night fishing for Broadbill Swordfish. These monster Billfish take a couple of hours to reel in, but are more than worth the wait for serious anglers. You'll be fishing for this ultimate predator with lures that have LED lights attached.

	Most Grenada fishing charters take place on top of the range big game fishing boats, built with sportfishing and comfort in mind. The amenities and gear on board will depend on your budget, but if you're looking for a top notch experience, Grenada won't disappoint.

	What to Bring</h3>

	Drinks and snacks are provided on most trips. Some captains will even make sashimi on board when you catch Tuna. Fishing gear and tackle is generally included as standard, along with your fishing license for the day.

	In general, any fish you catch will belong to the boat. But the captain will usually make sure you have some fish to take home with you, which your hotel can cook for you.

	You'll need to bring your swimsuit and a towel if you plan on jumping into the water, as well as the sun essentials: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

The real deal team

This trip leaves the dock at 6.30am, we have a few choices, we can run the reef drop off for big wahoo and kingfish, whilst also looking for tuna schools in the deep if the bite isn’t good. We can also head to the billfish grounds where we can expect to catch sailfish, blue marlin and also head for the tuna schools if they appear. Generally we would travel 17,lies offshore along the drop off or 12-15 miles around the billfish grounds.
We would look to return 11.30-12 depending on the bite.
