I got hooked on fishing when I caught my first Brook Trout in the hills of PA at the tender age of 4. By the time I earned my PhD in Chemistry, I had a plan to do what I loved. 25 years in various management and executive positions in Silicon Valley and I was ready to pursue my Salmon fishing passion. In 2004, we started Salmon King Lodge Guide Service in Red Bluff, CA. Later we expanded our operation to Gold Beach, OR. There is simply no better experience than watching my clients catch Salmon!

    Super fun trip

    2 Person Private Trip • 2 adults

    Goal of trip was for our 10 year old grandson to catch salmon, which he did. Bill and Greg are pros. Friendly, pleasant, funny, helpful, it was a joy to spend 2 days with them.

    Capt .Bill was very knowledgable and personable. Even though we did not catch any fish my Grandsons were able to be on the river and learn about the river and surrounding area. They had a very good time and look forward to coming back.

    A couple of pros and cards!

    Captain Bill and first mate River were on time when we arrived for an early start on the Rluge River. The steelhead were running and we thought that we had as good a chance as anybody of picking up a few. We went up river to a favorite spot that they knew set our lines and waited and I’ll be darned if in five minutes we didn’t have one on. It was quite a fight for a fish and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, when we got him in the boat we realized he was a little too short and sent him on his merry way. The rest of the day we were just fishing, we weren’t catching. But that’s how it goes and we had a really nice time out on the river on a beautiful day. I got to spend some time with my son’s and for that I thank both Captain Bill and deckhand ROver for a fine day. These are the guys you want.

    My son & I met Captain Bill on the Rogue early on a foggy morning in August. A nice smile, & a firm handshake greeted us for a nice day of Chinook fishing, & within 30 minutes I was fighting a 17 lb’r !! The fish being fresh from the ocean, had a lot of life in him, but Captain Bills’ experience really shines through even when the fish tried to go under the boat in the current amongst lots of fellow anglers, Bill put him in the boat. Thanks for a trip my son & I will never forget!

    7hr July Salmon fishing the Rogue with Captain Bill

    4 Person Private Trip • 4 adults • 2 children

    Before the trip Captain Bill warned us about slow fishing and asked if we would like to cancel. Since we were in it for the experience we let him know we would be going. Also in the email he let us know what to bring and answered all our questions. Fishing day we arrived at the landing at the same time met Bill and first mate River. They invited us into the boat went over the ground rules (3) and we were off. Captain Bill and first mate River were very detailed and patient with the kids since this was their first time using these kind of reals. All bait and tackle were prepared before hand and frozen. Everything was rigged for us every time and checked for proper spin in the water. All we had to do was catch the fish but as stated earlier it has been slow. In the end my wife caught the only salmon of the day and it was the biggest fish she has ever caught. Even though the kids didn’t catch a fish they loved the trip. All in all good people that make the fishing fun and memorable-plus. Thanks Captain Bill and first mate River

    We were fortunate enough to book 2 days with Captain Bill and his deckhand River. They put us on limits of rockfish with and even though the salmon fishing was slow he was able to find us a few fish on the river including this tasty 20 lber. Can't wait to book my next trip.

    I had an amazing time on the river with Bill. We started early and got off early we had hit my limit which I'm ok with. Had very nice conversation all day long. He would answer all of my questions about the fish and the area. He definitely knows his water and is proud of it. The boat had plenty of room and was comfortable definitely a 5 star trip and would recommend him to anyone. And Bill if your reading this thanks aging for a great day on the water

Rogue River King Salmon

We wrapped our Rogue River springer season a couple of weeks ago and are now preparing for Rogue River Bay Fall King salmon fishing. Springer season started out slow during April with historically low, clear water conditions. Early May brought increased flows from Lost Creek Reservior along with increased success rates through late June. Decreased releases from Lost Creek last week brought lower Rogue temperatures into the upper 70's effectively stopping upstream migration of salmon. So, what does this all mean? The Rogue Bay has fished well over the past week with a mix of late spring and early fall king salmon. Absent a highly unlikely July or August rain event, expect the Rogue Bay to hold salmon well into early September. The Rogue Bay should be quite productive through late August with prime time being the last 3 weeks of August and early September. While not the wilderness experience we normally provide our clients, the Bay has its own charms including the beautiful art deco influenced Isaac Lee Patterson Bridge and cool (75 degrees is a REALLY hot day) temperatures and, of course, big, ocean fresh King salmon.
