Hello, I am Captain Derek Wood. The proud captain of the fishing vessel Sea Angel. My goal every trip is to make sure my customers are safe, have a great experience, and catch fish! I have spent the last ten years of my life pursuing my passion for big game offshore fishing(Mahi, Wahoo, Tunas, and Marlin). I take great pride in my vessel and my gear to make sure you get the most out of your experience aboard the Sea Angel!

Full Day Trip • 2 adults64 year old guy with my 32 year old son, what a time we had on this trip. Captain Dereck was professional and allowed us to catch as many mahi as we wanted to take home and then spent the rest of the day trying to get us on billfish. We even did some bottom fishing for a short period of time a got a grouper. Mate “K” kept us prepared and made the day enjoyable-what a great guy.

I highly recommend the Sea Angel
Full Day Trip • 2 adultsFirst time in Hatteras. Went out on 5/17/26 and Capt Derek nailed it! First line in the water and "bam" they started biting. The firstmate was a phenomenal help. We ended up with 17 Blackfin and 14 Mai Mahi. I highly recommend the Sea Angel

Half Day Trip (PM) • 2 adultsAgain. Great crew. Three of us took the afternoon half day trip. Got 27 false albacore and 6 king mackerel. Will be fishing with these guys again real soon. And you should too.

Tuna Bites!

The Collin family had a blast cranking on some blackfin tunas and a hand full of mahi. We could have worked on the mahi more but the squalls dampered our progress. Over all happy faces at the wnd of the day!

Plenty To Go Around!

We started our day off fast trolling for wahoo. We caught our first wahoo by 7:45. Then we immediately found a school of mahi. We caught half our limit off the first patch before a big rain squall covered us up. We took a break to see if the rain would let up any. It finally lighten up enough to go back to work, but the wind blew the patch all apart. So while we hunted around for some more grass we hooked wahoo number 2. Then we found the grass again with a chair floating in it and finished up the rest of our bailers. We put the fast trolls out again on the way home for wahoo number 3, capping off a great day of fishing!

Mahi and Wahoo for Dinner!!!

We started the day off with a fast troll wahoo bite to wake everyone up! Then right after that we hooked up to a beautiful sailfish. While we trolled around to try and find another wahoo we heard of some mahi action going off just offshore of us. We worked our way there and found plenty of mahi! Needless to say fishing is heating up so book your trip with us today before ya miss out!

Dolphins and Wahoos!!

The last couple of days we where able to get out there was some dolphins and wahoos being caught. August is starting to heat up, and the wahoos will start showing up in numbers soon. Make sure you dont miss your opportunity to catch fish of a life time!!
