The summertime fishing on Lake Ouachita can be a blast for the family and great way to fill the freezer with delicious fish. Typically we are catching walleye, Catfish, Spotted bass, and Bluegill/Redear.

I was hoping for more bass or Striper but I am just learning local fishing patterns. Capt Fisher was very knowledgeable and provided guidance for the best times of year for specific species.

We went in early/mid-March. Don't expect to be reeling them in left and right. We were told the end of March, beginning of April tends to be better.

Drop shotting with live crickets caught us at least 6 different species of fish. Seeing as I'd never fished this lake before I opted to hire a guide. Another good idea is to question the locals. Local bait shops can provide great references. If you don't have access to a boat there is a good chance the locals can refer you to a good bank fishing spot.
