When you think of Zimbabwe, you probably picture endless savannahs that are home to a huge host of wildlife – elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, and more. HHK Safaris, located in Kariba, offers anglers of all ages and abilities the unique opportunity to fish among these incredible creatures. Get ready to reel in world-famous freshwater fish and come face-to-face with some magical mammals, too!
HHK Safaris’s main base is a camp located directly on Lake Kariba, surrounded by the Matusadona National Park. This charter and hunting safari company is operated by Roger Jorgensen, an avid angler for over 30 years. He decided to turn his passion for this sport into a career in 2014, and works with local, experienced captains to provide incredible, memory-making trips for his guests.
Each adventure includes a stay at the camp, which is equipped with 5 guest chalets, each with 2 beds, and a hot shower. As well as these luxurious amenities, it’s also common to see wildlife up-close-and-personal right from your chalet! When you return from your day of fishing, there’ll be chefs and waiters on hand to take care of your appetite – they’ll serve homemade dishes for you.
When it comes to the fishing on offer, you’ll head to Lake Kariba to hook a variety of freshwater species, including Tigerfish, Vundu, Barbel, Bottlenose, Cornish Jack, Kariba Bream, Chessa, Electric Catfish, Nkupi, and Tanganyika Sardine. The lake is 280 km long and its average width is 18 km, so there’s plenty of ground to cover! You’ll be fishing from your captain’s 26’ Pelican skiff boat, with room for up to 6 guests.
This lake is known to many as the “Lake of Wild Animals,” for the many wild animals that surround it, so make sure you bring a camera! Your captain will provide rods and reels, and tackle at an additional cost. You’ll be transported to the camp by the company, at an additional cost of around
$500. Come aboard HHK Safaris and get ready for an angling adventure that truly is like no other!
