Anglers looking for a sea-hardened captain and crew that can provide their customers a proper taste of New England fishing need look no further than Captain Matt Cooney and F/V Meredith Jean. Although he runs charters only from April to October, Capt. Matt fishes the Gulf of Maine year-round, catching anything the water has to offer. After 35 years of doing this, he’ll always be able to point to where the fish are and teach you what the best way of getting it out of the water is.
For the day, you’ll become part of the crew of Meredith Jean. She is a classic 35’ North Shore – a very safe, comfortable, and seaworthy vessel. Powered by a 350 HP Isuzu engine and equipped with all the electronic and safety equipment you could think of, this boat will provide you with all the tools necessary for a productive day at sea. The boat’s capacity is 6 guests, excluding crew, who can all fish at the same time. On Tuna trips alone the capacity is limited to 4 guests. The boat also has a private toilet.
On all charter trips, you’ll be provided with top-notch Penn equipment. Depending on the trip and the fish you’re targeting you may be using either live or artificial bait. In either case, you’ll be provided with the bait you need. Live bait is typically caught at the beginning of the trip and bait such as Mackerel and Clam that you’ll be using for tuna fishing and deep-sea fishing will be acquired ahead of the trip.
Also included in the price is your fishing license, meaning all you need to bring with you is a cooler with your choice of food and drinks, non-aerosol sunscreen, and your sunglasses. Please note that the deckhand works for a gratuity, and 15% is customary.
