Jake was a great captain and host!! He was very friendly and accommodating!! We had so much fun trying to land our sharks… just wish we did and the lines didn’t break!🙄 When our lines got tangled because the sharks were swimming around the boat with our line, Jake maneuvered the deck well to get us untangled and back to reeling them in! We caught lots of fish (some small), 2 eels, and enough Jacks, snapper, and grunts for dinner that evening! He cleaned the fish and we took our fish to a restaurant of Jake’s reco and it was delicious!!!!

6 Hour reef Trip (8am-2 pm) on December 30, 2024
We started our morning at 8:00 AM and headed out on the water. We stopped at a reef first where see chummed the water and started catching several yellow tail but were mostly too small other than two of them. We then began catching several cero mackerel and getting lots of hits of bigger ones off the back of the boat but only got a couple of them on the boat. Had. A beautiful pod of dolphins go through that slowed the fishing a bit so we headed out to a wreck but unfortunately there were just too many people there and not much was biting. In an effort to get us some fish we headed out to deeper water to possibly get some tuna, wahoo, Bonita and whatever else might hit while we trolled. We had a tuna that was taken by a shark and caught a Bonita that while bringing in got attacked by a dusky shark which got hooked so we reeled that in to the boat. Caught another Bonita and then headed back in and went back to the wreck where it had quieted down a bit. We put out a few live baits and dead baits and finally hooked a big one. After about 30 minutes of fighting this thing we finally saw that it was a 9’ hammerhead. We continued to fight it for another 30 minutes and got it to about 20’ off the back of the boat and finally lost it. Was certainly a bummer but my wife did an amazing job fighting this thing and taking over for me who was struggling a lot. Finally time to head in and we got ashore and put our stuff away while capt Jake cleaned our fish and advised us how to cook the mackerel. I like fish that don’t taste to fishy so I never had tried it but we headed to castaways restaurant and got it cooked wreck diver style and it was amazing. While at dinner capt Jake sent us all the pics and videos he took while we were out there which was a nice touch since we were to busy catching fish to many pics.

Captain Jake really put us on the fish! The trip was perfect for my family which included 2 children 8 and 10 years old. We were treated to near consistent action with Lane Snappers which the kids had a ball catching. We also got lucky enough to land a large nurse shark, cobia, and multiple sandbar sharks. Everyone had so much fun fighting them. Captain Jake is a heck of a fisherman as well as a good host. A cooler of drinks, cookies, and pineapple made the kids very happy. Next time we are back in Marathon we know exactly who to call to go fishing.

The boat was great, the equipment was in good shape and the launch location was nice, but the success of a charter has everything to do with your captain - so it’s primarily due to Capt Jake that I highly recommend SaltnSun! Capt Jake worked really hard to ensure we had a good time. On top of that, he’s just a really good fisherman. As a result, we not only had a great time, we also caught a bunch of fish! I wouldn’t hesitate to book with SaltnSun again.

First of all, we were scheduled for a morning trip but it was windy. Captain Jake called and rescheduled us so that we would have a better experience. We had 4 adults and 2 kids. The kids caught as many fish as the adults! Cap. Jake gave them step by step instructions and they caught the fish on their own . None of this I'll catch them then give you the rod. He was also not watching his watch to make sure we didn't get an extra 5 minutes. Overall Great time!
