Virginia’s Whitetop Laurel Creek ranks as one of the finest natural Wild Trout streams in the Southeastern US.
Paralleled for long sections by both the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Virginia Creeper Trail, the creek offers backcountry adventures within a 15-minute drive of Interstate 81 in Southwestern Virginia, one of the major transportation arteries in the east.
Target Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout with Captain Mark. He’s a stream specialist that knows the area like the back of his hand. Expect to do fly fishing, walking, and wading during your adventure. Keep in mind that these trips are catch-and-release only, so any Trout you catch will be returned to the stream. Rods, reels, and flies are included, along with lunch for the journey.
Whitetop Laurel. From the first railroad trestle above Taylor Valley to the mouth of Green Cove Creek at Creek Junction and the portion upstream from the mouth of Straight Branch to a sign at the Forest Service boundary just downstream of Taylors Valley.
Green Cove Creek. From Rt. 859 downstream to its mouth. The special regulation area is located east of Damascus (near the Tennessee line) and lies within the Mount Rogers Recreation Area.
Wolf Creek. That portion of the stream and its tributaries within the Abingdon Muster Grounds in the Town of Abingdon from Colonial Avenue downstream to Stone Mill Road.

I've been fly fishing for almost 50 years. I've fished all over the USA for almost all species. I was employed by Orvis for five years in the fly shop in Sevierville, TN. I currently teach fly fishing classes for the US Fish and Wildlife Services. I started fly fishing at 16 and have not fished with anything else the entire time. I only use Orvis gear with a few Hardy fly reels. I've been a guide for almost three decades and I am a fully licensed guide.
