Sábalo Charters offer day fishing trips from San Jose to Barra del Colorado. An extremely experienced crew, they will provide transport to one of the best fishing destinations in the world from the country’s capital city, meaning you don’t have to think about anything other than fishing for one of the most desirable game fish species that inhabits salt water - the Tarpon, or ‘Silver King’.
The crew is a group of people that describe themselves as ‘regular people who fish for fun and compete in Tarpon tournaments’. While they do indeed fish for the sheer enjoyment of it, they also take the sport extremely seriously. They are so devoted to Tarpon fishing that they make their own lures that are similar to artificial flies but are used with conventional light tackle and spinning tackle rather than fly rods. This novel method has proven to be extremely successful, and the team’s numerous victories in Tarpon tournaments as well as their strong record for getting guests to catch big Tarpon in a short period of time speaks for the effectiveness of their approach.
Their small and stealthy flats boat has recently been restored. Fitted with very accurate fish finders and powered by a 150 HP Yamaha engine, the vessel is proven to get you to the best fishing grounds quickly. At 24 ft, the boat can comfortably accommodate up to 4 guests.
Sábalo’s team is made up of local people who are passionate about catching Tarpon. They welcome all types of angler on board and have frequently been known to get beginners to land their first Tarpon in as little as ten minutes. They do, however, recommend that people who have never fished for Tarpon before get a full medical check before coming on board, as the sport can be very exciting and physically demanding.
