Atrapasueños Sportfishing Costa Rica
Make some memories in Quepos and go fishing with Atrapasueños Sportfishing. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Butch knows them forwards and back.
Depending on the time of year, you might hook into Mahi Mahi, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Cubera Snapper, Snook, Yellowfin Tuna, and anything else that bites. You’ll target your catch by spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Butch also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
If you’re traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board.
Your fishing machine for the day is a 30’ offshore sport fishing vessel that can carry up to 5 passengers. It has outriggers and all the essentials. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Butch will provide rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
You will need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). Drinks will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks provided on board.

Half Day Trip – Inshore/Nearshore
Costa Rica fishing charter
Deckmate "Christian" was pretty much the best one that I've ever had in over 50 years of fishing. He was working with both outriggers, 6 lines, two multi-squid teasers, boat cleanliness, food, drink and fish cleaning continuously every minute of 10 hour trip. Captain Butch was personable and showed his experience running the boat on the difficult, late fishing season trip working hard to find and catch fish even though luck was not with us.

Great Day with Capitain Butch
The day started off a bit slow, but these guys were great and we tried a few different spots and techniques, there was no hestiation to go out further to find the fish. I really liked that! The boat was spotless, hot lunch was better than I expected ;) It was a great day, and i'll use these guys again when in here in Costa Rica!

Perfect Fishing Day
Everything about our experience with Capt Butch and First Mate Junior as perfect We have 2 children (13&10) and they did everything to accommodate them and us. Butch is from Florida so his first language is English which helped us feel a little more comfortable Junior is local and knows everything about the local fishing scene. Having a bathroom on board was a lifesaver for our young daughter to feel comfortable I highly recommend this experience.

Fantastic fishing on the Gypsy Girl.
We had a fantastic day on the water with Butch and Roy fishing on the Gypsy Girl. We were hoping to catch a Sailfish. We ended up catching 6. Everyone in the boat caught a Sailfish and one of my daughters caught 3. After we caught the Sailfish we wanted to go after something for dinner. Butch and Roy located a pod of dolphins feeding on a school of tuna. We fished the tuna for a while. We ended up hooking one and had it at the boat but he spit the hook at the last minute. We didn’t catch one for dinner but it was high adventure all day long. The boat was very clean and well taken care of. The lunch and fruit snacks were great. We will definitely be fishing with them the next time we are in Costa Rica.

Great day on Gypsy Girl with Capt Butch
Butch and Roy took my family and me out for a great day of fishing. We hooked 7 beautiful Sailfish and brought 4 to the boat! I just can't say enough about how attentive and professional these guys are! Butch put us on the fish all day and Roy hooked 'em and talked us through hauling them in. None of us are expert sport fishers but the crew of Gypsy Girl made us all feel like pros. If you want a fishing charter where you will have a great time, catch some fish and feel like part of the family, then Gypsy Girl from Atrapas Sueños Sport Fishing, Costa Rica is the boat for you!
