Inverness Florida Fishing Charters is all about freshwater fishing in the Inverness area. The home lake is Lake Panasoffkee, but Capt Jim also fished the Withlacoochee River and the Tsala Apopka chain. Fishing spot will be determined by conditions and the goals of the client.
Largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and sunfish are available year round. Warmer weather is best for most species while crappie bite best in winter. Capt Jim puts an emphasis on action and numbers using light tackle as opposed to trying for one trophy bass.
Capt Jim rarely uses live bait on his charters. He will pick up worms for children or very inexperienced anglers. Otherwise, clients will be casting lures and flies in search of fish. Anglers are certainly welcome to keep a few fish for a meal.
Capt Jim really caters to anglers desiring to fly fish. He provides quality gear for clients, though they may certainly use their own if preferred. Capt Jim uses anything from 3wt to 8wt outfits, depending on conditions and species being targeted.
This is pretty easy fly fishing. Short easy casts are the norm. Most of the time, popping bugs are used for both bass and panfish. This reduces snags and adds to the excitement as nothing beats a topwater bite!
Anglers spin fishing will use anything from ultra light spinning tackle to medium baitcasting gear. It pays to have a variety of gear so clients can switch between bass and panfish.
Capt Jim uses a 15" Siesta Skiff on his trips. It is wide and stable and perfect for some of the unimproved ramps on the Withlacoochee River. It fishes two clients along with Capt Jim easily.
