Depending on the season, you might hook into Walleye, and plenty more. During the trip, you will be bobber fishing with light tackle.
The Mille Lacs Angler welcomes kids aboard, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Child-sized life vests are available for emergencies, otherwise, you should bring your own for comfort if you would like your child to wear one the whole time they are on the water. Snacks are never a bad idea to keep their stamina going!
Capt. Dereke operates a 40’ Pontoon with space for 8 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Dereke will provide rods and reels for you, as well as lures and live bait.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates often work for tips and it’s customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.
Before coming aboard, it is required to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
It’s recommended to bring sunblock (non-spray), bottled water, and sunglasses. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Great morning of fishing on Mille Lacs!
These folks knew where the fish were and we caught quite a few. They know where the walleye hang out and possessed great expertise on the depth we should fish at and gave us excellent tips on fishing. The filleting job was first rate. We give them the highest recommendation. TM Johnson, Duluth

Great trip!
I would highly recommend captain Dereke and Millie Lacs Angler for your next trip. He and his first mate were very fun and interesting to talk to. We had our three kids with us and they had a blast. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in town. Thanks for a great time!

Dereke and Randee were awesome
We had a great time and caught some beautiful fish, and even though we would love to catch more (which you can’t control) Dereke and Randee made everything so easy, were great to talk to and learn from, and we also got to see some beautiful wildlife on Mille Lacs. Our whole group really enjoyed the trip and I would definitely recommend it to others!

Great family fishing trip!!
Captain Dereke and guide Randi were warm, friendly, great with our children and attentive to our needs. Dereke taught our kids about fishing and boat safety during our trip. They did a great job despite weather that didn’t want to cooperate. When we returned we bought some really nice quality hoodies. Highly recommend this guide and small business.
