These waters are known for Great Barracuda, Bonito, Mahi Mahi, Blue Marlin, African Pompano Jack, Jack Crevalle, Roosterfish, Sailfish, and more – with any luck, it won't be long before "Fish on!" On these trips, it’s common to troll and bottom fish.
You can keep any fish you catch, so long as regulations allow it. Capt. Juan Carlos can even clean your catch for you. How's that for fresh seafood?
Families who love fishing together will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are never a bad idea for a boost of energy when needed!
Your fishing machine for the day is a 31' fishing boat with room for 6 passengers. It comes with downriggers, and everything you need for a productive day on the water. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are provided, along with lures. Live bait is available, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. A 10–20% tip is customary to show your appreciation for their hard work.
You will need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
A few items to bring include sunscreen (non-spray), and sunglasses. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be some light snacks available on board.

f you’re anywhere near Playas del Coco and don’t book a trip with Cabo, you’re missing out on one of the best adventures Costa Rica has to offer. 🌊🐟 We went out for a spring fishing and island excursion, and from start to finish it was flawless. Cabo runs a first-class operation—his boat is spotless, comfortable, and equipped with everything you need, whether you’re after big game fish or just soaking up the sun. The fishing was unbelievable. Within the first couple of hours we were hooked up with mahi and tuna, and Cabo’s knowledge of the local waters made all the difference. He knew exactly where to take us, when to change things up, and made the whole experience exciting without ever feeling rushed. After fishing, we headed to a nearby island, and that part of the trip was pure magic—crystal clear water, a quiet beach, and time to swim and relax with incredible views of the coastline. Cabo had cold drinks and fresh fruit ready, making it feel like a private paradise. What stood out most wasn’t just the fishing or the scenery—it was Cabo himself. He’s friendly, professional, and genuinely loves sharing the ocean with people. By the end of the day, it felt less like a charter and more like spending time on the water with an old friend.
