Species like Mahi Mahi, Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Shortbill Spearfish, Bigeye Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, and more can be found in these waters, depending on the time of year. On the day of your trip, you're likely to troll using light or heavy tackle.
Looking to get the whole family outdoors? Kids are absolutely welcome! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. And, you can't go wrong with snacks to keep up those energy levels!
You'll be dropping lines from a 40' Gamefisherman sportfishing vessel with space for 6 passengers. It comes with outriggers, a fighting chair, all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Geoffrey will supply rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is included, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
There's no need to buy a fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Keep in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. If you don't know what to expect, ask the captain.
Don't forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

My girlfriend and I had an absolutely incredible full-day sport fishing experience in Kona, Hawaii with Captain Neal and his amazing crew! This was our first time catching marlins! Captain Neal's passion for what he does truly shines through, and his crew was just as enthusiastic and helpful. Let me start by saying what an amazing operation Phantom Sportfishing is! I am a boat captain and have fished all over the world, on many luxury charter boats. When coming to Kona I did ALOT OF research and talked with countless charters. I choose Phantom because of their excellent customer service from the first call throughout the entire charter experience. The captains were highly experienced, excellent at their craft and super friendly and fun to be around. 10/10 to you captains! As for the boat…. Wow. The fact that it was open air and offered 360 degree views and a huge deck and covered area made the experience so much better than some enclosed cabin boats. The boat has a ton of shade, extremely comfortable seating and so much room for our entire group! You can bask in the sun or stay perfectly cool in the ample shade. As far as a fishing platform for Kona Hawaii, it was absolutely the best and I couldn’t be happier with our decision. From the excellent captain and crew, the pristine tackle and the amazing boat, phantom gets a 10/10 from this experienced world fisherman. We had so much fun we booked 2 extra days. When looking at a charter experience go with Phantom. They truly exceeded all our expectations! Thanks again Captain Geoff and Captain Neil! Already looking at dates to come back for a week! 10/10. Best Kona fishing charter!
Full Day Trip on February 5, 2025
This is hands down the best fishing charter I've been on. The boat is so beautiful and clean (including the head), you can tell how much pride and hard work that Geoff and Neal put into her. The speaker system sounds great and they let us connect to the Bluetooth and choose our own music. The boat also has a large built in cooler that they stock with ice to keep all of our food and drinks icy cold. I tend to get seasick, especially if I'm sitting down inside the boat, like on all the other fishing boats I've been on. This boat has a spacious outdoor area that's covered to provide a lot of shade, but it's still open and airy enough to help prevent seasickness. This truly makes this fishing boat stand out. Geoff and Neal were friendly and held great conversation with us when we wanted it. The rest of the time they were working hard to get us a fish. It seemed like they were frequently changing lures, communicating, adjusting rods, and keeping close eyes on the GPS/sonar. They also knew all the hot spots to get a bite, and after not too long, we caught a blue Marlin! Once we had the bite, they were so fast to act to get us in the angler's chair and gave me perfect instructions on how to to bring that fish up. It was difficult but they were my cheerleaders and helped me get that Marlin all the way up to the boat. This was the best day of fishing I've had in Kona and I can't wait to go out with them again!

I recently had the pleasure of going on a fishing charter with Phantom Sportfishing and it was an experience I won't soon forget! From start to finish, the crew went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic day out on the water. Captain Geoff and his first mate/captain, Neil, were exceptional. They were both very knowledgeable about the local waters and fishing techniques. They took the time to explain everything to us, from how to reel in our catch from start to finish. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and they made sure everyone on board felt included, regardless of their skill level. The boat itself was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with all the necessary gear. There was plenty of room for everyone and the seating area was comfortable for our downtime between catches. Safety was clearly a priority, with life jackets readily available and a thorough safety briefing before we set out. We had an incredible day fishing! Within the first hour, we were already reeling in a nice Pacific Blue Marlin. Captain Geoff knew exactly where to take us based on the conditions that day and the thrill of fighting a big fish was exhilarating, we even saw dolphins! The crew joined in on the fun, sharing some local fishing stories and tips, making the day feel even more special. Went out on the Phantom last weekend with Captain Geoff and his crew of seasoned professionals. It was my first time sport fishing so I was definitely nervous but I was in good hands. Captain Geoffrey Peck is the owner and operator of Phantom Sportfishing in Kona, Hawaii, where he offers exceptional charter fishing experiences. With a USCG 100-ton master captain certification, Captain Peck has spent decades navigating some of the world’s most challenging and rewarding fishing waters. Captain Peck’s passion for fishing began in his youth in Montauk, New York, where he first set out on the water. Whilst attending the University of Miami, he captained and crewed on private and charter boats out of Key Biscayne, gaining invaluable experience. He has fished extensively throughout the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Florida, and chased giant bluefin tunas off Cape Cod. His extensive tournament experience spans Florida, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Hawaii. In 1997, Captain Peck moved to Hawaii, where he has since owned and operated charter fishing vessels out of Lahaina Harbor and Maalaea Harbor on Maui, as well as Honokohau Harbor in Kona. In addition, he has spent the last 16 summers charter fishing in Alaska. Captain Peck’s wealth of experience, coupled with his deep passion for the sport, ensures every fishing trip is an unforgettable adventure. Captain Neal Preston began his professional sportfishing career in 1985 on the iconic docks of Key Biscayne, Florida.
