Many international anglers consider Ascension Bay the best fishing spot in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Here you can aim for a Grand Slam, which consists of catching three of the following four species in one day: Tarpon, Snook, Permit, and Bonefish. Ascension Bay is located 34mi (2 hours) south of Tulum. It is a small fishing village where you can kayak, snorkel, dive, take boat rides, and practice sport fishing.

If your accommodation is in Tulum, the fishing spot assigned to you is “Tulum - Fly Fishing & Spinning 'Skeeter'”, as Ascension Bay is too far and transportation is not available. You can find and book this fishing spot directly in Fisihgbooker.

The strong fishing season in Ascension Bay – Punta Allen for permit, baby tarpon, tarpon and black snook fishing is from March to November

Enjoy fly fishing & spinning in Ascension Bay in a 7 hours session, from 6:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M.  Boat comes with guide for two people, beverages on the boat (water and sodas), snacks, rods, reels and tackles, ice box and ice.

7 Hour Trip – Punta Allen&Ascension

Bait and Switch

VERIFIED

I did a search for fishing trips out of Tulum. This trip surfaced with high ratings, and arranged transportation. Upon booking, the "Captain" asked for where I was staying, and then said it is too far for transportation. He then said he would change the trip to a closer location. He then proceeded to say he still could not arrange transportation. I had to book a rental car through my hotel. Once I confirmed I had transportation, the "captain" then said he had a family emergency, and that he could not make the trip, but that he has someone he trusts to ensure I have a great trip. The person who eventually captained the trip was excellent, and he did get us on to some fish, but no where close to the experience we thought we were booking from the advertisement. In further conversation with our guide, he let us know the "captain" runs a booking business, and lives in Guadalajara - clear on the other side of Mexico - and that he is a regular contracted guide for the "captain". If you want to go to Ascension Bay, make sure you confirm the true location, transportation, and who will be your guide before you finalize your booking.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologize for the communication gaps regarding transportation and logistics. While we’re glad you ultimately enjoyed fishing with our trusted guide, we regret that the initial planning fell short of expectations. To clarify for future anglers: • *Ascensión Bay trips require separate transportation due to the 3+ hour drive from Tulum—road conditions may extend this further (as noted in our listing).* • *For Tulum-based guests, we recommend closer premium spots like ‘Boca Paila-Campeche Reserve’ (40 mins away) or our ‘Tulum - Fly Fishing & Spinning ‘Skeeter’’ location (visible on Fishing Booker). These options maximize fishing time while maintaining quality.* • Our mission is to connect anglers with expert local guides who lack digital infrastructure—we vet and support these professionals passionately. We’ve since implemented: ✔ Enhanced location/transport transparency during booking ✔ Explicit Tulum-specific options in all listings We’d welcome the opportunity to showcase our improved service. Until then, tight lines! Nomonday Fishing Team
