Spend the day with Fish With A Purpose and let them show you what makes the fishing in Groton so memorable!
These waters are known for Striped Bass, Bluefish, Cod, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Flounder, Haddock, Pollock, Black Seabass, Mako Shark, Thresher Shark, Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, and more – with any luck, you'll hook into a few!
You'll target your catch by spinning, popping, trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. John also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Trips with Fish With A Purpose are child-friendly, so feel free to make a family day out of it! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. Snacks are permitted onboard — bring your favorites so that nobody gets grumpy on an empty belly!
Capt. John will bring you aboard a 28' Other with room for 6 passengers. It comes with downriggers, everything you need for a productive day on the water. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. What's more, this vessel is wheelchair accessible.
Your captain will provide rods and reels, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. It's customary to tip the Mate 10–20% to show your appreciation.
Before coming aboard, you'll need to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don't forget to bring sunblock (non-spray), a hat, bottled water, and sunglasses. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
