For exciting fishing on the rivers of southwest Virginia, look no further than Joe's Guide Service. Captain Joe will be your guide, which means you'll tap into years of angling experience.

We offer guided trips for Musky and Smallmouth Bass on the Lower New and Upper James Rivers of Virginia, waters that Capt. Joe has been fishing for years and has dialed in the bite 12 months out of the year.

Capt. Joe is equipped with both conventional and fly gear and can cater to any angler's preferences. We participate in "fair chase" fishing, which means no live bait, no live-scope, and a strict catch-and-release policy. As a guide, Capt. Joe is a steward of these resources, and enjoys seeing big Musky and Smallmouth hit the net, year after year!

Capt. Joe will bring you aboard a 14' fishing raft with space for 2 passengers. It is equipped with casting braces and platforms, as well as comfortable seats for the ultimate river boat experience. Capt. Joe will provide all rods and reels for you, along with lures. However, if you have a rod you love to cast, he will happily accommodate that.

Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. All you will need is a Virginia Freshwater Fishing License, which can be found at the Virginia DWR website.

Come prepared for your day with sunblock, a rain jacket, sunglasses and a ball cap. On Musky hunts in the winter, make sure to dress in layers and perhaps bring waders or bibs for extra warmth. Remember, no studded boots in the raft! Capt. Joe will have cold waters in the cooler. Make sure you pack a lunch and some snacks, as well as any other beverages you may want. Alcohol is permitted, in moderation.

Whether you want to catch your new PB Smallmouth, or try your hand at hunting the elusive Musky, Joe's Guide Service is the choice for you!

This trip is a great choice for anglers who want extra fishing time for an affordable price.

Musky hunts are not for the faint of heart. The days are often cold. Hours can go by with no action, and bites are fast and aggressive. You have to stay mentally checked in all day in order to not miss what could be your only chance on a day where just moving a fish is a success. These trips are not exactly beginner friendly, as musky are famous as the fish of 10,000 casts. That being said, Capt. Joe has the experience and knowledge to help you convince these picky apex predators to eat.
