Captain Jim Hanley has shared fishing time with such notables such as Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Jimmy Houston, Jim Kelly, Jake McCabe, Wade Boggs, Don Beebe and too many more to list here. He will share stories of his many years of guiding these legendary folks as part of your days fishing.
Top targets include Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. During the trip you might be spinning, trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
If you're traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Don't forget to bring snacks to ward off any mid-trip fatigue!
You'll be dropping lines from a 21' Lund pro V with a 300 Mercury Verado on the back with capacity for 3 passengers. It has all the essentials.
Rods, reels, and tackle are covered by the charter, as well as lures. Live bait is available, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don't forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), bottled water, and a hat. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Full Day Trip –Smallies and Walleye on May 19, 2025Five years ago two of my friends and I booked a three day smallmouth bass trip with Captain Jim Hanley. To say our first experience with Captain Jim was absolutely amazing would be a huge understatement! We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked again for the following year before we left. Fast forward four years we enjoy fishing with Jim now more than ever and have already booked for our 6th year. He has excellent equipment, stories about his impressive career for days, he is kind, very knowledgeable about numerous fish species, an absolute pleasure to fish with and oh yeah....almost 50 years of guiding experience on Lake Erie. The photos above are proof that rain or shine Captain Jim will put you on the fish! If you are up in the air about booking a trip with him let me put your mind at ease....BOOK IT! He is absolutely worth every penny and then some. Can't wait to get back on the water with him!

Full Day Trip –Smallies and Walleye on July 19, 2024Great day, caught lots of fish. Limited out on walleye for three guys in 4 hrs. Captain Jim cleaned all of our fish when we got back to the boat launch. Would definitely book again!
