Depending on the season, you might hook into Snook, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Bull Shark, Hammerhead Shark, King Mackerel (Kingfish), Spanish Mackerel, Little Tunny (False Albacore), Goliath Grouper, Gag Grouper, Tarpon, Grunt, and whatever else is biting. You'll target your catch by spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Merrick also offers fly fishing.
Capt Merrick Adventures welcomes kids aboard, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. And, you can't go wrong with snacks so that nobody gets cranky on an empty belly!
Your day begins aboard a 24' Skeeter bay boat that can carry up to 6 passengers. It comes with all the essentials. What's more, this vessel is wheelchair accessible. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, along with lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, just show up ready for some fishing! Keep in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. If you don't know what to expect, ask the captain.
It's never a bad idea to bring sunglasses, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

We had an excellent fishing trip and couldn’t have asked for a better captain! He was professional, knowledgeable, and worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time. He knew exactly where to go to find fish and was always willing to help with baiting hooks, untangling lines, and sharing tips. His friendly attitude and patience made the trip enjoyable from start to finish. You can tell he truly loves what he does and wants his guests to have a successful day on the water. We caught plenty of fish, made great memories, and would definitely book another trip with him. Highly recommend!
We had a great trip with Captain Merrick! We caught around 30 fish and had a fantastic time on the water. Captain Merrick was very personable, knowledgeable, and made the trip enjoyable from start to finish. In addition to putting us on the fish, he took the time to point out all kinds of sea life along the way, which made the experience even more memorable. We had an amazing time on our fishing trip! The captain knew exactly where the hot spots were and anchored us in the perfect locations to catch large grouper and redfish. As an added bonus, we caught a blowfish and were lucky enough to see sea turtles and dolphins during the trip! The captain kept us engaged the entire time, interacting with us continuously, sharing his knowledge, and making sure everyone had a great experience. His friendly personality and expertise made the trip even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this charter to anyone looking for a fun, successful, and memorable day on the water!
My 9-year-old son and I had a fantastic fishing trip with Captain Merrick in Clearwater yesterday. It was really hot, but he went out of his way to keep us comfortable with drinks, shade, and care especially with my son. We caught a ton of fish including grunt, grouper, trout, and a shark. Captain Merrick put us on fish all day and made it a fun, memorable experience. We would definitely fish with him again next time we’re in Clearwater. Highly recommend!
Our family spent the morning fishing with Captian Merrick, he was the perfect choice for us! He is very patient and fun with kids but also good at giving proper guidance. We had an exciting time seeing all the varities of fish we were able to catch! He understood different areas of the ocean, and knew every fish we caught. We had such a great time fishing with Captian Merrick and would definitely use him again next time we are in the Tampa area.
