As someone who only gets to fly fish a couple of times a year, I would consider myself a novice at best. My casting technique was rusty from the start, but Captain Matthew Foster had the rust knocked off in no time. His instruction was clear, easy to understand, and incredibly effective. Within a very short period of time, my casting improved significantly, and I felt much more confident with a fly rod in my hands. This trip was filled with firsts for me. It was my first time fly fishing in saltwater, my first time fly fishing from a boat, and my first time targeting tarpon. From the moment we launched, Captain Matthew put me on fish all day long. His knowledge of the fishery was impressive. He knew where the fish would be, how they would react to changing tides, and when they would move. Time after time, he positioned the boat perfectly and gave me opportunities to fish that I never would have found on my own. Beyond his fishing knowledge, Captain Matthew is an absolute professional. He handled the boat with precision and confidence, and the condition of the boat itself was immaculate. It was obvious that he takes tremendous pride in its care and maintenance. Communication before and after the trip was simple and effortless. He coordinated a convenient pickup and drop-off location and kept a careful eye on the weather throughout the day to ensure both safety and the best fishing opportunities possible. The entire day was an absolute treat. I honestly don’t think I stopped smiling the whole time. Landing my first tarpon on a fly rod with Captain Matthew was an experience I’ll remember for a very long time. For my first outing fly fishing from a boat and in saltwater, I couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better experience. Whether you’re a seasoned fly angler or a complete beginner, I have no doubt you’ll have a great trip with Captain Matthew. Just be prepared to put in the work because he’s going to put you on the fish. When I’m back in the Tampa Bay area, I’ll absolutely be booking another trip with him.

Matt I really appreciate you and all the hard work you put in on the water to hook those fish! im looking forward to getting ohy again!

Booked a night tarpon trip, and I gotta say it was so worth it! This style of fishing is so unique and adrenaline pumping! Went out and found fish right away. Unfortunately the weather turned and made conditions tough, but Matt never lost hope. He went above and beyond to find a bite. Had many opportunities thanks to Matts persistence and knowledge of the area. Ended up hooking and landing a dream fish of mine! Would go fishing again with Matt any day of the week. His knowledge was impressive, his passion infectious, and his vision on the water was unbelievable. The way he was able to spot this fish in the water was simply amazing. Truly an incredible and unique experience that I would recommend to any angler!

Absolutely incredible. I worked 13 seasons as a guide and have been around guided fishing and whitewater trips my entire life as a guide or client. Capt. Matthew is in the top tier of those I’ve worked and/or fished with. He’s relentlessly enthusiastic, patient, and knows his fisheries well. If you’re looking for fly fishing in the Tampa Bay Area he’s your go to. The gear he provides is also solid and well maintained.
