Racine has a fish with your name on it, so let School’s Out Sport Fishing help you catch it! Your guide for the day is Captain Shane, which means you'll tap into their sportfishing experience.

Depending on the season, you might hook into Chinook Salmon, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Coho Salmon, Walleye, and whatever else is biting. For these species, you're likely to troll using light or heavy tackle.

Thinking of bringing the whole family? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are never a bad idea to stay fueled throughout your trip!

You'll step aboard a 34' Pursuit sportfishing vessel that can carry up to 6 passengers. It comes with downriggers, and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. What's more, this vessel is wheelchair accessible. Capt. Shane has rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.

A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates often work for tips and it's customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.

Before coming aboard, you may need to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.

Don't forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Go ahead and treat yourself to a day on the water with School’s Out Sport Fishing.

Salmon Charter on Lake Michigan
6 Hour Trip on May 29, 2026

We had a great day salmon fishing on Lake Michigan with Captain Shane and his crew. They were easy to work with on selecting date and time, transparent about pricing and what we needed to bring. Gave excellent direction on where to meet and what time. Scheduling was easy. Upon arrival Captain Shane and his crew met us at the dock and gave us a run down of the day and full safety briefing on the boat. Shortly thereafter we were on the fish! Despite some younger anglers the crew worked hard and got us over 50 bites and we maxed out our limit. The fish cleaning and sorting process made it super easy for us to “catch and cook” and enjoy it that afternoon. This trip was booked as a “schools over” celebration and we all agreed will become an annual tradition for the Dads and the Sons. Was a great day and would highly recommend this great fishery and even better charter experience!

Captain Shane's passion for Great Lakes fishing began in the early 2000s when he started working as a first mate out of Port Washington, Wisconsin. Spending countless hours on Lake Michigan, he quickly developed a deep understanding of salmon, trout, and the ever-changing conditions that make Great Lakes fishing both challenging and rewarding. Those early experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong career on the water. After beginning his fishing career, Shane proudly served five years in the United States Marine Corps. His military service helped shape the discipline, leadership, and work ethic that continue to define his approach as a charter captain and business owner today. Following his time in the Marines, Shane returned to the Great Lakes fishing industry and built his reputation as a professional captain. Over the years, he worked as a hired captain in several major Lake Michigan ports, including Port Washington, Waukegan, Winthrop Harbor, Kenosha, and Racine. Fishing across multiple ports provided invaluable experience and allowed him to develop a broad understanding of seasonal fish movements and successful techniques throughout the region. In 2017, Shane founded School's Out Sport Fishing with a vision of providing memorable, family-friendly fishing experiences while sharing his passion for Lake Michigan with anglers of all skill levels. Since launching the business, he has served as owner and operator, dedicating himself to helping customers create lasting memories on the water. Today, School's Out Sport Fishing is known for its professionalism, customer service, and consistent success targeting salmon and trout on Lake Michigan. Whether guiding experienced anglers or introducing newcomers to the sport, Captain Shane takes pride in delivering safe, enjoyable, and productive fishing trips while showcasing the incredible fishery that Racine, Wisconsin has to offer.
