Come chase giants on one of the greatest freshwater fisheries in the world!
With 30+ years of experience fishing Manitoba’s legendary Red River, Captain Scotty J brings a lifetime of fishing experience to every trip. He’s travelled the world chasing countless species and has guided in Northern Manitoba through some of the toughest and most extreme conditions imaginable. But the Red River has always been home.
Based out of East Selkirk, Manitoba, Chasing Giants specializes in putting guests on the incredible fish that call the Red home. Depending on the season, you could be battling giant Channel Catfish, Walleye, Sturgeon and more.
Every trip takes place aboard a fully equipped 19’ Alumacraft Trophy 185 w/ a 150hp Mercury Pro XS, set up w/ top of the line electronics designed to find the fish. You’ll fish with top of the line rods, reels, tackle, electronics, and equipment, so whether you’re an experienced angler or holding a rod for the first time, everything you need is ready to go. Manitoba Fishing licenses are required for every guest prior to departure.
Depending on the species and time of year, we may be bottom fishing, jigging, trolling, or using specialized techniques developed from decades of experience on these waters.
Families and kids are always welcome aboard. As a dad of three boys of my own, teaching kids, keeping them engaged, and helping them build confidence on the water is nothing new to me. I love watching young anglers learn and there’s nothing better than seeing a kid hook into a giant Red River catfish for the first time!
Whether you’re an experienced angler chasing a trophy, visiting Manitoba and looking for a bucket-list fishing experience, or simply wanting an unforgettable day on the water with your family, the goal is simple:
Catch big fish. Have some laughs. Make some memories.
Come experience the legendary Red River in Selkirk,MB and see why anglers travel from around the world to fish these waters.
Gratuities appreciated.

Fishing has been a lifelong obsession for me. I’ve spent 30+ years fishing the Red River, but my passion for chasing big fish has taken me around the world. I’ve fished the waters of Costa Rica for Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna, travelled to Nicaragua chasing Tarpon, and spent countless days across Northern Manitoba, both guiding and fishing for giant Northern Pike, Lake Trout and Walleye. I’ve competed in fishing tournaments throughout my life, and spend as much time as I can hunting trophy Musky on Lake of the Woods in Ontario. But the Red River is home. I don’t just go fishing—I study it. I’m constantly learning fish patterns, seasonal movements, water conditions and how weather affects where and when fish feed. I’ve mapped the Red River and built up decades of knowledge about where fish move throughout the season. I also believe your equipment matters. I invest in high-quality rods, reels, tackle and some of the best fishing electronics available, giving my guests every advantage possible when we hit the water. I’m a dad of three boys, so teaching kids and keeping them excited and involved on the water comes naturally. Whether you’re an experienced angler looking for a trophy or bringing your kids out to experience their first giant catfish, my goal is the same: put you on fish, have some laughs and create a day you’ll remember.
