The boat comes furnished with an assortment of navigational and fish finding technology, such as a Garmin 4210 GPS and Sonar (fish finder), as well as redundant VHF radios. The vessel features two private bathrooms and 4 ACs on board, as well as a spacious seating area, complete with 3 leather couches. The galley is also rigged with a refrigerator, microwave and sink, as well as electric two-burner cooktop. There are two staterooms on board, with one queen and two single beds.

A father/son duo, Don and Jason Jonas are committed to providing their guests with an exciting and memorable day at sea. When he was 16, Don became a diver for a prominent treasure hunter, Mel Fisher, subsequently captaining the crew’s 85’ dive boat. His son Jason was born and raised in Key West, and decided early on to follow in his father’s footsteps. The crew’s dedication saw them discovering and testing the waters of many renowned fishing destinations, including Belize, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas and more.

With over 35 years of combined fishing experience, the High Stakes crew works hard to put you on a wide range of pelagics traversing the offshore waters, including the Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Tun, Snapper, Grouper and many others.

High Stakes is located at Oceanside Marina which is on the south side of the island. All fishing gear is provided; the crew utilizes various tackle by Penn and Shimano, including Shimano TLD-25 and Shimano Tiagra 50w and 80w (two speed trolling reels). Apart from Rupps Marine Tournament Outriggers and Penn Fathom Master Downriggers, there’s also a Pompanette Pro Series Fighting Chair on board.

Father/Son team, Don and Jason Jonas, can provide an amazing day at sea! Here’s a little history about the team. Don’s family moved from Connecticut to Key West when he was just a child. At 16 he bacame a diver for world renowned treasure hunter, Mel Fisher. During the 20 years of employment with the Fishers, Don became Captain of their 85′ dive boat, the JB Magruder. Jason, born and raised in Key West, at age 18 earned his Captain’s license. Like father, like son they furthered their careers by gettting their 100 ton Master Captain’s license. In the 2008 Drambuie Marlin tournament, Jason caught the biggest Marlin, weighing in at 350 lbs!! This landed an interview and article on ESPN website. Their hard work and dedication has taken them fishing and sailing to exotic places such as Belize, Mexico, Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Along with their 35 years combined experience, professionalism and knowledge of surrounding waters you will have the ultimate trip.

Unfortunately when the weather is not ideal catching can be difficult. We all wish for calm days and following seas but it just wasn’t the case of this trip. 20 plus knots of wind out of the north and arriving cold front can shut the bite down. I recommend fishing here in the summer months when the weather is nice and the bite is more active. Best of luck in the future.

Very rough water. Of course no fault of charter. Caught 3 fish early nothing rest of the day.  Captain and first mate did as much as they could.  Head needed some repairs but was usable. Just a tough day to be on the water.

The head has an emergency kill toggle switch next to the flush button. Sometimes on a rough day it can be accidentally flipped into the off position. Head works just fine zero issues. Next time there is an problem please let the mate or me know as soon as it happens. Congrats on your big Blackfin Tuna.
