Kailua-Kona has, as you would expect in a tropical paradise, a tropical climate. The warm temperatures allow local charter operators to be on the water daily and catch fish year-round.
Hop aboard the 37' Bertram open cabin offshore sportfishing boat, which can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests. She’s powered by twin 330 HP Cummings engines and boasts the latest GPS and Fishfinder technology. What’s more, she has a flybridge & tuna tower. On calm days you can use to sight surface activity.a spacious 2 door toilet convenience. She also features outriggers, Tuna tubes, a live well, and a fighting chair. With 15.5 ft beem she accomidates plenty of room and places of shade. Highly recomend taking a look at the vessel you choose closed cabins if air conditioned its nice but doesnt feel like your fishing and deck space all importsnt to getting the most out of your money.
You’ll explore the offshore waters off the coast of Kona for some of the world’s most desirable fish around. Hook into the likes of Mahi Mahi, Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Blue and Striped Marlin, Ono (Wahoo), Shortbill Spearfish, Amberjack, and Giant Trevally.
The crew has two goals: making sure you catch the fish of a lifetime and ensuring you have a great time doing so! They offer kid-friendly charters and are able to accommodate beginner and experienced anglers alike. Keep in mind our crew and captain make a living catching fish, 60% of our income is from daily charters, 20% gratuity, and 20% from selling the fish we catch.

First Time Fishing Charter Experience
Morning 3/4 6 hour trip. on June 16, 2025
Jim and his first mate Sean are 2 local guys that have a ton of knowledge to share, and not just about fishing. They were working the lines almost non stop for the entire 6 hour trip all the while taking the time to explain to us what they were doing while they were doing it. Sean talked with us all through out the trip, going into detail about the things he was doing while doing them. He answered all our questions and then dome all throughout the day. I definitely feel like we wouldn’t have had the same experience if we had booked with one of the other more commercial like companies on the island!

Lightning Strikes Twice!
Morning 3/4 6 hour trip. on April 21, 2025
We had fished with Captain Jim a little over a year ago, and while it was an enjoyable trip, there was no action until the final 30 minutes, when we caught an 80lb blue marlin. This trip was very similar, as Captain Jim and deckhand Tevin were constantly switching up lures and tactics. A couple of near misses with a billfish and big bull Mahi, but it looked as if the trip would end without a hook up. Once again, about 30 minutes from the dock, a reel starts screaming! After amazing teamwork and coaching and a 30 minute, a 150 lb blue marlin was boatside. Yet again, another amazing experience on the Konadice! Can't wait for our next trip!

Great trip with the kids
Afternoon 3/4 6 hour trip on April 19, 2025
Our family of 4 (two adults, two kids 10 and 12) had a great 3/4 day trip. The kids are beginners, but the crew did a great job showing them what to do. We hooked a 110lb blue marlin early (my 12 year old got it to the boat, but it slipped away). The captain/crew saw that catching any fish was more important to my family than the big prize fish and managed to find a nice school of yellow fin and rainbow runners. The kids had an amazing time and declared that we need to do this anytime we are in Hawaii. We will book again with Kona Dice when we return. I’m glad we went with the 6 hour trip instead of the 4. The extra 2 hours were well worth the trip extra cost.

Great Day of Fishing
Morning 3/4 6 hour trip. on May 16, 2025
My two friends and I throughly enjoyed our trip with Konadice! We had close to one of the best days of fishing you could possibly have. Filled the cooler with skipjack after hooking singles, then a quadruple and then a double, and a few more singles. We then pivoted to marlin where we were successful in landing a nice marlin. Afterwards, we were able to also land a short bill spearfish which was a great catch. Captain and first mate were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and brought us to the fish. Cleaned and bagged some of the fish afterwards. Look forward to tasting some more of our catches soon. We will remember this for a long time.

Awesome Experience & Caught Fish for Dinner
1/2 day 4 hour trip on December 2, 2024
Jim was a great Captain and led us to places to catch skipjack tuna. There were 4 of us, including my 2 teenage boys. He had my oldest driving the boat since his crew member was off for the day. He really enjoyed it. He encouraged my youngest and worked with him to reel in the biggest catch. We had 4 nice sized tuna. His girlfriend cleaned them for us when we got back to the dock. When she dumped the extras there were 2 huge turtles ready to get the foods. So neat to see them right there. Overall a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend using Jim for your fishing trip.

Captain Jim, who owns and operates Kontadice Sportfishing charters, has been living in Kona since 1984 and fishing here since 1985. He is on the water 365 days a year, and his family owns restaurants Pancho and Lefty's Cantina! Captain Jim grew up in the hospitality industry so he knows it's most important making sure clients catch fish and have a great time doing what they're doing!
