David Rooney
David Rooney is one of the most professional and knowledgeable captains in Richmond, California. With over two decades of experience in sport fishing and commercial crabbing in the San Francisco and San Pablo Bays, David has mastered the local waters and understands the true rewards of patience.
If fishing in San Francisco Bay appeals to you, you would absolutely love it aboard a 27' Aluminum fishing boat. It is a clean, seaworthy fishing machine that is well-prepared for the current bite. It comes powered by a single 175 HP Evinrude and performs great in the local waters. Perfect for accommodating up to six anglers, the boat is equipped with Lawrence navigational electronics and other professional features.
David Rooney begins his season in January when the weather can be a bit cold but Sturgeon fishing is hot. Come spring, and it's time to head to the reefs and offshore for some Salmon trolling action. Or cruise to the deeper waters with a heavier tackle for Rockfish. If you are looking for chasing Halibut, Captain David can show you the most productive spots. If you don't want to expand the list of potential catches, you can go for Striped Bass, Halibut, and Lingcod.
Whether it's a private charter for you and your fishing buddies or a shared trip with anglers all around the country, each trip with Captain David is fun and action-packed. You will be provided with rods, reels, and tackle, as well as bait. When you return to the shore, your catch can be cleaned and filleted at an additional fee and ready to jump straight into the frying pan. You will need to purchase a license prior to the trip, grab something to eat and drink, and join the adventure.
Now, simply take a look at the packages offered below, book one that best fits your needs, and start counting down the days until your next adventure!
The lead balls used for Salmon fishing are charged 10$ per weight.

Had a great day out on the water fishing for halibut and striper with Captain Dave and his first mate Arron. This was our third time going out with them, and they continue to deliver an awesome experience every time. From start to finish, they were professional, knowledgeable, and made the whole trip easy and enjoyable. We ended up landing some really nice halibut, and there was steady action throughout the day. Dave clearly knows where to go and how to put you on fish, and Arron was always right there to help, whether it was setting up gear or making sure everything ran smoothly. If you’re looking for a solid fishing trip with a crew that knows what they’re doing and keeps things fun, I definitely recommend booking with Captain Dave. Looking forward to getting back out there again soon!

thank u so much Brant for coming out fishing with us it was fun fishing with u n the boys!! hope u got back home ok n ready for some fresh halibut dinners!! thank again Captain Dave!!!
We had a great experience with Captain David. He was very professional and moved the boat when needed to keep us on fish. Caught our limit of Stripped Bass. would recommend him to all anglers.

The fish weren’t biting ( 3 keeper stripers and no halibut) but the captain moved us to numerous spots trying to put us on the fish. Water conditions weren’t great for fishing but a beautiful day on the bay and had a great time.

thank u Wayne so much it was a pleasure fishing with u n sean today hope u made it home ok take care Captain Dave!

We were told it was a slow day for what we caught, but for two guys who have never fished the Bay or much salt water at all it was incredible. David was extremely helpful getting us going and in the water. Our half-day trip managed to extend well beyond the five hours in an effort to get our daily limit, which shows the level of effort David was willing to put in. I would highly recommend David's charter primarily because of the small group he brings out. It's a smaller boat and I believe maxes out at six people, which is far more comfortable than what some of those larger boats look like. His knowledge and experience is extremely invaluable as well.
I started fishing at the early age of 6 on my grandfather six-pack boat for Salmon, Striped Bass, and Rockfish in San Francisco Bay's outside ocean on the Marin coast. I loved to go fishing with my grandfather and helping him with the boat. I got my captain license in 1992 and worked in Halfmoon Bay for different charter boat companies running the Huli Cat Capt. Jon Blue Horizon Princton Special, then worked out of Emeryville on the Capt. Hook. I also lived in a Alaska for 8 years, worked for charter boat services in Sitka and Ninilchick fishing for Halibut, Salmon, Rockfish, and Lingcod.
