Laguna Mare Guide Service offers exciting adventures on the waters of the laguna Madre in South Padre Island, Texas. The company is run and operated by Captain Zach, a professional guide, who is passionate about everything outdoors. Join him on his day out for a fun and productive experience. Like everybody says, it's a lot better to be on the bay than in the office!
Zach will take you out aboard his 26' Shallow Sport X3, which is a stable and well-maintained boat. It comes powered by a 300-HP 4-stroke engine and is prepared for the current bite. The vessel provides comfortable fishing space for up to six anglers and is rigged with modern navigational electronics and safety equipment. There is a multimedia system, an ice-box for the catch, and a live well that can be loaded with bait.
Whether you want to fish the waters of the Laguna Madre, or out in the Gulf of Mexico, Captain Zach will work hard to help you make a memorable day on the water. The trips are from four to eight hours on the water. Choose the trip that suits you best, take your family and friends, and get ready for some rod-bending action. Your main targeted species will include Redfish, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, and Flounder.
Captain Zach is great with kids so feel free to bring your child with you. After all, there's nothing better than seeing a child's smile when they land their first-ever fish!
All trips come with quality rods, reels, tackle, and lures. Live bait can also be used for an extra fee. You will need to purchase a license before the trip. When you return to the shore, your catch will be cleaned and filleted. You can feel free to bring your own drinks and food with you.

4 Hour Trip – Bay Fishing pm on September 17, 2024 • 2 adultsMy son and I recently visited S.P.I and booked laguna madre guides to gobbay fishing and let me tell you the fishing and the guides a top notch...we were originally supposed to fishing with Zach bit due to a lower unit problem he couldn't go but he set us up with his partner John Martinez for a 4 hr morning trip. Day started out beautiful we were on the water and fishing by day break and within 30 minutes we had our limit of speckled trout.....we caught more but because of the size we had to throw them back...after our limit of trout we cruises around the bay and tries for some red fish. My son caught one small red and had another on but it snapped the line at the boat.....we had a blast and we will fish with John and Zach when we visit S.P.I again....no more capital Murphys for this guy ..the real fishing is with laguna madre..

He put us right on the sheep head and within a couple hours we had almost limited out. Helpful & good with our boys. 8 Hour Trip – Bay Fishing (AM) on December 27, 2021 • 5 adults • 3 childrenCaptain was great. Been on other trips before on “normal” boats… pontoon is the way to go. So much more room and definitely more comfortable. Well worth it. You don’t get wet either like on some other lower to the water boats. On this trip, adults did not fish…our captain spent a lot of time helping the kids hook up and attach live shrimp to the hooks and casting. We caught over 50 fish for sure but only kept 20 of the bigger ones. Biggest one was a 22”. We had several 20” fish. It was a great experience. Definitely will recommend in the future.

8 Hour Trip – Bay Fishing (AM) on March 13, 2018Spent one family day fishing with two adults and teenage son. My 16 yr old is an avid fisherman and he spent a second day fishing with Capt Zach. The time with Zach was spent catching fishing and lots of easy conversation and laughs. Having never fished Baffin Bay, and prior to our scheduled trips, Zach met us at the little bait shop in Riviera and set us up with the right stuff for pier fishing. Zach recommended areas to take our kayaks and the best local restaurants. Capt Zach goes the extra mile for clients and we consider him a new friend.

8 Hour Trip – Bay Fishing (AM) on October 29, 2017Started as a cold morning for south Texas. Being from Minnesota it was balmy. Water temp was cool, but off we went. Zach new just where we were heading. 6 miles of cool Tx breeze. Dropped anchor and started fishing. To slow he says. So we moved 200 yards and spent the next four hours there. During the course of that time we filled the box. Not all were keepers, but many of fish were caught on many a cast.

Half day trip with Captain Zach
4 Hour Trip (AM) on October 30, 2017Awesome trip! We started of the morning pulling in trout fairly consistently. Fished with popping corks and killed it on the trout. Didn’t limit on trout but had constant action. Very knowledgeable of the area and with the tackle and techniques. Highly recommend a trip with Captain Zach!

Zach took us out for a full day. We wanted to bring home fish to eat and he delivered. We caught enough sheepshead to feed the whole family many times over. He was very accommodating of my mobility limited father, as well as providing fishing guidance for my two kids. His equipment was all in great shape.
