Easy Spearfishing – Queen Elizabeth
If you’re looking for an active, unique, and extremely fun way to fish, Easy Spearfishing is the right charter for you! Spearfishing is the most dynamic way of fishing. Join Ruben Canfield as he teaches you apnea and freediving techniques, how to recognize the different reef species of fish, as well as instructing you which ones are protected and which ones aren’t.
The vessel they use is a 23’ custom-built offshore sportfisher. It’s powered by a 250 HP Yamaha engine. It’s capable of comfortably seating 6 people, although due to safety concerns, only 4 spearguns are to be in the water at the same time. All of the equipment required for spearfishing is provided by the charter, as well as the training to use it.
Spearfishing is the most selective way of fishing available to the modern angler. The beauty of spearfishing isn’t just in the hunt for the fish, it’s also the gorgeous undersea landscapes you get to witness. This charter will take you to the breathtaking reefs of the Mexican coast, teeming with colorful fish and inspiring views.
Captain Ruben accepts and encourages children to learn how to spearfish in a safe and responsible manner. Being a marine biologist, all customers will also learn some interesting lessons about the species of fish they are targeting, as well as the local ecosystem. After the trip, the crew will clean and fillet your catch, so you can enjoy a tasty feast you have caught with your own two hands!
Easy Spearfishing is available to customers who are confident swimmers as you may be going as deep as 10m under the water.

An excellent afternoon
Having never spearfished before I was a little apprehensive about a trip like this however Ruben was an excellent guide. The equipment was all provided and he was an excellent coach who had safety as a priority throughout which was very reassuring. He challenged me to push my boundaries in a way that was comfortable and encouraging with positive advice throughout. This isn’t fishing in a conventional sense, this is snorkelling with a speargun and the snorkelling itself was phenomenal. Within minutes we’d seen a turtle, sharks and a ray - something I never expected and will never forget! Sadly having swallowed a large amount of seawater I struggled with sickness but it was still a fantastic afternoon and a very much once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you very much Ruben for the help, guidance and patience!

Captain Ruben is a give the shirt off his back kind of guide. When I asked to buy one of his companies shirts, he said he was out of stock but gave me the one he was wearing instead. What a guy! All that aside, Captain Ruben is an extremely knowledgeable and talented spearo and mentor. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an amazing experience unlike any other. He takes the time to teach you the skills and mechanics to become efficient at the art of spearfishing. Although I learned quickly that spearfishing is no easy task, Captain Ruben with Easy Spearfishing was patient and gave me good instruction to correct my mistakes. I will proudly be a repeat client anytime I am back in Playa Del Carmen.
