RockenReel Sportfishing reporting outstanding fishing in Southern California right now. You need to book a trip now and get on this excellent Yellowtail, Mako, Barracuda and Bass non stop action. Attached some real time videos. The monstrosity of these fierce fighting Yellowtail were much more than anyone anticipated the last couple days. Everyone should be taking full advantage of this once in a lifetime yellowtail action so close to port! Yellowtail are schooling on paddys anywhere from a foot long stringer to those nice big patches of gold. Paddys are holding mostly 25-40lb Yellowtail with a few 50 pounders leading the schools. We hit 20 paddys today and more than half had 1 or 2 nice big yellowtail on them. Some paddys had up to a dozen fish on them and others were blanks. These Yellowtail are not boat shy. Only two of the half dozen we hit that were holding where the fish spooked and bailed. We had a blast bending poles all day " fish on". The ticket to catch these beasts was yellow or white irons and big lively sardines. 20 pound test w 20 pound floral carbon line was the ticket but that big 55 lber will be a challenge. 30 lb line was working when the bite was strong early morning. The first paddy we hit, only a mere 3 miles from Dana Point Harbor, where we could'nt keep big Yellowtail- Amberjack off the hook. "Hook Up" or "I'm On" all day. We fly lined and threw Irons. These fish put up a nice long fight and like to run hard at the paddy and wrap you so get ready for battle. 25 and 30 lb test line was also working when we got chumy. Lots of fish out their right now. Calico Bass wide open bite w/ clouds of fish. A few White Sea Bass and Halibut in the mix if you get lucky. An abundance of Pacific Barracuda have been keeping the reels turning. Rock Fish and White Fish are filling the coolers with nice white filets. BIG Mako Sharks out there right now. We got into a Mako Shark so big that none of the customers wanted to take the pole. The reel was screaming and PEELING LINE LIKE A RUN AWAY TRAIN! This 2026 El Nino is the beginning of the best S. California Sporfishing season in over a Century. I have been real time tracking the local Southern California Sportfishing patterns from Huntington Beach to Oceanside for decades and never seen a bite this strong on Calico Bass Clouds, WSB or PRIZED PELAGIC Yellowtail. LOTS OF BIG YELLOWS 1 MILE OFF SHORE and on the way in today the last patty was at 212 feet right in front of Doheny and holding COWS. Here we go!

RockenReel Sportfishing landed our first Yellowtail of the Season less than 5 minutes out of the Harbor. Epic Clients lost 5 to kelp wraps and landed one. These clients play for the Anaheim Angels minors and are also seasoned anglers from the Florida Coast. Finding and hooking is the easy part sometimes. When you hear the bite's on u high tail it to the docks and bolt. SONNY AND I scoutted the area out front for an hour and lost one. Were going out tomorrow again. Stay tuned. - Captain Steve
