The ocean's been a bit rough lately but we took advantage of the window and ran out past the jetties into the ocean today! Within a couple of minutes of getting the rods in we had our first fish on. A small chinook that had to go back, but a good sign for the rest of the day. With the fog making it difficult to navigate we pushed on and had several more on and lost. Finally with a little practice we managed to get the first keeper on board. A few more passes on the same spot and it was time to make a move. We dropped into another spot and within minutes we had another fish on. This one popped off but the second one didn't. That one went in the boat as well. The choppy water made it difficult to find the seams but all in all we had 7 fish on and one drive by to make for an exciting morning on the ocean and while we didn't take any fish pictures, we have the scales on the boat to prove it!

This awesome family joined me for an amazingly fun sturgeon trip. We only had a short time but still managed to get over a dozen to the boat with nearly all of them over 6 foot. We did find a few "smaller" ones that we could bring out of the water for pictures. To make the trip special we also had a rare green sturgeon make an appearance. To make it even more special, Noah set the record for being the youngest person to bring in an oversized sturgeon on my boat at 7 years old! I can't wait to get these guys out for more adventures. They're an awesome crew and a great family :)

Today was a perfect day for a Columbia River sturgeon fishing trip. The weather cooperated with minimal winds and pretty smooth water. More importantly, the fishing continues to be absolutely on fire. Today featured lots of big fish with multiple sturgeon above 7 feet long. The gymnastics were particularly impressive with large fish jumping and splashing close to the boat. The action was fast with very few times that we were able to keep all of the rods in the water. Multiple doubles and a triple hookup made for a lot of tired arms and big smiles. I love having kids on the boat and today we even managed to get smiles out of a couple of teenagers. I can't wait until my next trip!

These guys wanted to cap off their weekend in Astoria with a fishing trip. With a rough ocean the sturgeon made for an awesome day on the water. We easily had more than 20 to the boat with the largest at 7 1/2 feet long. I was a little worried at the beginning of the day about a 10 year old bringing in a sturgeon all on his own, but my fears were all put aside. This kid is an absolute pro! Multiple doubles made for fast action but these two had some amazing teamwork. I can't wait to get them back out on the boat again!

Today was another epic day of sturgeon fishing with over a dozen to the boat before noon. We had a broader mix today than the day before with a couple of small guys but the big boys still showed up. Catching these guys on the flats is always super fun with cartwheels and big jumps and runs. There's nothing quite like being on the other end of the line with a fish that weighs over 100 lbs when it decides to launch itself!

Catch and release sturgeon is on fire in the Columbia Estuary with over a dozen oversize fish to the boat The average size was around 5 1/2 feet long with a couple over the 7 foot mark. We had consistent action all day until everyone's arms got tired!
