Ten Dorado Drive the Cabo Fishing Action
The day's story centered completely on dorado.
Rather than producing a mixed catch, the Blue Star found enough dorado activity to provide four anglers with repeated opportunities during the charter. By the end of the day, 10 fish had come to the boat.
Dorado rarely stay in one predictable location. They travel with favorable water and available food, making the search an important part of the fishing. Crews watch for concentrations of bait, working birds, floating material, current edges and activity on the surface.
When the right signs come together, the pace can change quickly.
Captain Jorge and the Blue Star crew located productive water and converted those opportunities into a double-digit catch.
Five Dorado Released Back into Cabo Waters
Half of the day's dorado were released.
The anglers retained five fish and returned another five to the water. That produced a 50% release rate while still allowing the group to keep part of its catch.
Dorado are exciting fish around the boat. Their brilliant greens, yellows and blues can become especially vivid during the fight, while their speed and tendency to jump add another dimension to the experience.
With multiple fish encountered during this trip, the anglers had plenty of opportunities to experience that action firsthand.
One Dredge Helps Build the Cabo Fishing Spread
A complimentary dredge was included with this charter, although only one dredge unit was operational that morning.
The dredge creates the visual impression of schooling bait below the trolling spread. Pelagic predators investigating that activity can then encounter the hooked presentations being pulled behind the boat.
Having only one operational unit didn't prevent the crew from adapting.
Offshore success depends on much more than a single piece of equipment. Finding productive water, recognizing signs of life and keeping effective presentations in front of active fish remain critical.
The 10-dorado result showed that the available setup was more than capable of producing.
Eight Hours Gives Captain Jorge Time to Work
The eight-hour charter provided additional flexibility to search Cabo waters and stay with productive fishing once the dorado were located.
That extra time can become valuable when offshore fish are moving. Instead of being committed to one area, the captain can continue evaluating conditions and adjust the plan as the day develops.
The four anglers also enjoyed lunch aboard, with fajitas and guacamole served during the charter.
At 2:00 PM, the Blue Star returned to the marina after a full day on the water.
The final result was 10 dorado caught, five retained and five released—a productive summer outing for four anglers aboard the 32' Blue Star Luhrs.
