Fishing in Oman

Experience the thrill of world-class saltwater fishing in Oman, where the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea converge to create an angler's paradise. This destination offers unparalleled diversity, from battling acrobatic Sailfish and powerful Giant Trevally to targeting Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo in rich offshore waters. Oman fishing charters provide access to prolific ecosystems around Muscat, Salalah, and the remote Hallaniyat Islands, where record-breaking Queenfish and Amberjack thrive along dramatic coastlines.

Specialized techniques define these adventures: pursue Giant Trevally with heart-pounding surface popping in Southern Oman, jig for Amberjack near underwater structures, or troll for migratory pelagics. Inshore waters teem with Snapper, Grouper, and Barracuda, while fly-fishing enthusiasts can challenge the elusive permit species. Premier Oman fishing charters operate modern 32-36ft boats equipped with advanced gear, fighting chairs, and expert guides who share traditional hand-line techniques alongside modern sportfishing methods.

Seasonal rhythms enhance the experience—plan excursions between September and May to avoid monsoon swells, with peak Giant Trevally action in April and October and intense Yellowfin Tuna runs from January through April. Multi-day expeditions to island archipelagos combine luxury camping or lodge stays with nonstop action. Every Oman fishing charter prioritizes sustainable catch-and-release practices while delivering authentic cultural immersion through secluded bays, limestone cliffs, and coastal villages. Whether exploring Muscat’s deep-sea grounds or casting along Salalah’s desert-meets-ocean landscapes, these charters unlock a bucket-list destination where diversity meets raw adventure.

Oman Fishing Seasons

January

It’s the coolest month of the year in Oman, with average temperatures hovering around 21°C (70°F). Now is a great time to fish for Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo, and much more!

February

Many big game fish are at their peak in February, from King Mackerel and Sailfish to Tuna. This is one of the best times to target Sailfish near Salalah.

March

Average temperatures are rising toward 26°C (79°F). Grouper fishing is slightly below average in Muscat this month, but Yellowfin Tuna are still at their peak.

April

Dry season on the south coast of Oman will be coming to a close soon, but you can expect excellent weather and even better fishing until then. GT are peaking, along with many other species close to shore.

May

Jigging and bottom fishing at this time of year will bring you Nannygai, Grouper, Trevally, and more. Up north, you can still enjoy good fishing offshore, but the weather down south is starting to turn.

June

June is the hottest time of year in Muscat, with average temperatures climbing as high as 35°C (95°F) on some days. You can catch Mahi Mahi and Sailfish offshore, or try bottom fishing for a variety of smaller species.

July

It’s monsoon season on the south coast of Oman, and your chances of heading offshore may be few and far between. Up north, you can still enjoy excellent fishing for Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and more.

August

The temperature in Muscat begins to cool in August, with average highs hovering around 32°C (90°F). Mahi Mahi and Grouper are at their peak in the north, while monsoon season rages on down south.

September

September is one of the best times to fish for Yellowfin Tuna in Salalah, weather permitting. Meanwhile Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and Grouper continue to dominate the waters up north.

October

Average temperatures are sinking toward 30°C (86°F). As dry season begins, many fish are at their peak–from Barracuda, Amberjack, and Longtail Tuna to Black Bream.

November

November is one of the best times for fishing in Oman. The weather is superb, and you’ll find gamefish almost everywhere you look! GT are at their peak in the south, and Yellowfin are abundant all around the coast.

December

The fishing in Hasik and Shuwaymiyyah is at its height this month, but anglers in Dibba aren’t having as much luck. In Muscat and Quriyat you can expect relatively good fishing offshore.
