Perch fishing on Lake Winnebago is simply outstanding! Yellow Perch is Wisconsin’s favorite Panfish and, alongside Walleye, it’s the main reason so many anglers visit this lake every year. They’re not aggressive, so they make a great target for your first catch. But this doesn’t mean they aren’t good enough for experienced anglers! A Perch on the end of your line is always welcome, cause these fish make for a good meal.

You can go after Yellow Perch on Lake Winnebago at any time of the year. They move to deep water during summer, but you can often find them closer to the surface in other months. Perch are the reason even those windy and cloudy days are good for fishing, because they’ll move closer to the shore where it’s easier to catch them. They’re one of the rare species you can target during winter and will be your main catch if you go ice fishing.

To maximize your chances of a successful trip, go fishing in spring when Perch spawn. Novices usually book four-hour trips, but this doesn’t mean you should avoid full day trips just because you’re a beginner. Lake Winnebago offers a wide variety of fish, so eight-hour trips are great if you want to catch different fish or test out other techniques.

Rules and Regulations

The good news is you don’t have to be patient for Perch season to open – it’s open all the time! There’s no minimum size limit and the only rule is that you don’t catch more than 25 fish per day. Your guide will cover your equipment, so you only need to purchase a freshwater license.
