Résumé du voyage

A Masterclass in Tactical Adaptability The action started early and heavy aboard the Mathis. By 8:00 AM, our Mexican guests—who were already riding high and celebrating their national soccer team's recent victory against Ecuador—were screaming as the reels went off. We successfully fought and safely released a beautiful, hard-hitting Sailfish right by the gunwale after it nearly straightened the hook. The first part of the morning was spent in absolute paradise; the ocean was a literal swimming pool with clean currents. However, around 10:00 AM, the weather shifted drastically, bringing in moderate rain, lightning, and heavy winds. Instead of calling it a day, we executed a swift tactical audible: we moved closer inshore to seek shelter along the coastline. This strategic move turned out to be an absolute goldmine. Sheltered by the coast, the lines stayed locked, delivering a non-stop blitz of six Yellowfin Tunas, three Mahi-Mahi (Dorados), and one massive, trophy-sized Spanish Mackerel. After nearly eight hours of high-intensity action and adapting perfectly to everything nature threw at us, our guests decided their coolers were full enough. An unforgettable testament to local expertise and resilience! Daily Log: Duration: Full-Day Charter (Approx. 8 Hours) Weather Conditions: Calm morning turning into a heavy storm with rain, wind, and lightning by mid-day; shifted to sheltered inshore waters for safety. Total Catch: 1 Sailfish (Safely released), 6 Yellowfin Tunas, 3 Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), 1 Large Spanish Mackerel. Key Highlight: Expert navigation and tactical transition from offshore to inshore due to severe weather, ensuring passenger safety while maintaining a relentless catch rate. #StormFishing #Sailfish #YellowfinTuna #MahiMahi #CostaRicaSportfishing #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida

Persistence, Lessons, and the One That Got Away Sportfishing is a sport of passion, and the ocean doesn't always read the previous day's reports. After hearing great action updates, we charged out early with high expectations. We put in two solid hours of intense scouting from the first light, but mother nature gave a resounding "no" to every single boat that cleared the marina today. The morning only yielded a small Black Tuna, but we refused to give up. Chasing a blue-water alert, we pushed the Mathis further offshore, navigating up to 35 miles deep into beautiful, crystalline blue water looking for the right current. We ran hard, testing our limits, but the bite remained stubborn. It wasn't until we were on our return run that a massive Sailfish showed up, curiously shadowing the gunwale. We circled back, presented the bait perfectly, and teased him into a ferocious strike! The reel screamed, and the battle was on. Our young, apprentice angler took the rod, but a lack of experience in keeping the line tight and executing heavy pumps allowed the monster to gain the upper hand. The sailfish threw the hook and vanished back into the blue. At the end of a grueling day, our board read two Black Tunas and a heartbreaking loss. But that is the beauty of this sport: we win some, we lose some, but we never stop hunting. Every tough day is a lesson that builds better fishermen for tomorrow! Daily Log: Duration: Full-Day Scouting Charter (Approx. 8 Hours) Distance: Offshore up to 35 Nautical Miles Total Catch: 2 Black Tunas (1 Sailfish lost at the boat) Key Highlight: Transparent look into the reality of sportfishing. Highlighting the captain's relentless work ethic by running 25 miles out to find clean water, and the educational mentorship provided to apprentice anglers on board. #MathisOceanAdventures #RealFishing #OffshoreCostaRica #SailfishBattle #Persistence #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida

A Family Fishing Success For the second time in less than two weeks, we had the privilege of welcoming a family from Ukraine on board the Mathis. They came to us with a very specific strategic goal: they wanted to skip trolling entirely and focus 100% on spinning and bottom fishing. Even though we located a productive current very close to the coast, we immediately adapted our setup to match their preference. The strategy paid off beautifully. The family had an incredible time experiencing the fast-paced, hands-on action of casting and jigging. In a short period, they successfully brought in seven Rainbow Runners, a Surgeonfish, and a Triggerfish (pez chancho)—all excellent white-meat species known for their fantastic flavor. As often happens with open-ocean adventures, the wind and swell picked up, causing heavy seasickness for some of the family members. Prioritizing their comfort and safety above all else, we made the executive decision to head back to port early. Despite the shorter trip, the family left completely satisfied, with coolers packed with fresh fish and great memories of their coastal battle. Daily Log: Duration: Inshore Charter (Returned early due to passenger seasickness) Technique: Bottom fishing and Spinning (No trolling) Total Catch: 7 Rainbow Runners, 1 Surgeonfish, 1 Triggerfish Key Highlight: Adaptive crew shifting tactics instantly to match client preferences, balancing high catch rates with passenger safety and comfort during rough weather. #MathisOceanAdventures #BottomFishing #Spinning #RainbowRunner #FamilyCharter #HerraduraBeach #CostaRicaFishing #PuraVida
