Big Flounder, Today!

Flounder catching is here, finally! Water is gorgeous clear…we saw down 8’. The bite was strong from just after dead low to high. And you couldn’t beat the smiles, competition and rod bending. How long will it last? I don’t know, but it is lots of fun!

Water was “60!!!!!!” at 8:30AM, today. Yesterday, it was “70!!!!!” That change slowed the bite, for sure. First, we saw some birds diving in the inlet, and trolled. The air was cold! No hits, so we fluked. I quickly realized heat was needed, so we headed back to “the ditch” and found some action at 68 degrees. As the water drained out, we moved closer to the ocean and found some more action. (For the love of Pete! Can Ocean City get some consistent Summer water temps????)?‍??‍??‍?

We departed under clouds, 75 degrees and 10mph north wind. Water was very clear. We fished an old spot I hadn’t fished much this year. Within five minutes we were getting hits and then it was catching. One fish measured 17”, but we were C&R today, anyway. This super group was soaking up my fishing tips, asking lots of questions and chilling to Michael Jackson. Everbody caught, today. You can’t ask for a better first time out…I had to caution them, though. Not every fishing trip is a 10 outta 10. ????
