    great fishing and great scenery

I came to Darwin with my son and we weren't disappointed! We had a great time and caught plenty of fish.

    March fishing trip

Had an awesome morning in the estuary with Darryl. He knows his stuff and is fun and easygoing, and as a group of mostly novices, it made the experience even better. Wasn’t the best fishing conditions but Darryl showed us how well he knows the area and everyone in the group scored a fish or two. If you’re in Carins and after a fishing charter, I highly recommend Fish Tales.

    From bait to restaurant

Our dkipper Jacob caught live bait which we used to catch a nice mixed bag. We caught about 10 different species. We weren't equipped to clean and take our catch, so Jacob offered to clean it. When we discussed preparing the fish, he offered to take it to the Ochre restaurant where they would prepare it. He brought the fish there and made a reservation for us. The fish was fantastic and the presentation amazing. We definitely would recommend the fishing and the dining.

    Great Day Out

I would certainly recommend booking a trip with Jacob. He put us on the fish all day and was very knowledgeable and happy to share with us. He was easy to talk to and maximised the time we were fishing for the entire time. We left with fish and great stories.

    Dad with two kids

My son is a keen fisher though my younger daughter is not but both had a great time and felt confident and comfortable with Jacob. He engaged with them both and shared stories and knowledge of the area. Highly recommended to families.

Threadfin Salmon are powerful inshore game fish known for fast runs and sharp head shakes. Anglers target them for exciting fights in shallow, tidal waters like bays, estuaries, and mangrove creeks. They are also respected as quality table fish in many regions, so both catch-and-release and harvest-focused trips are common.

You can target Threadfin Salmon with spinning or baitcasting gear around current lines, drop-offs, and muddy flats. Live bait or cut bait works well, and many crews also fish soft plastics, minnow plugs, and surface poppers. Fly fishing can be effective when fish push bait toward the surface, especially on moving tides. Keep presentations near the bottom or along structure where they hunt.

Expect an active day with bursts of action around tide changes. Strikes are hard, and the first run is strong, so steady pressure is key. This fishing suits first-time anglers and seasoned fishers alike. Families enjoy the close-to-shore setting, while enthusiasts love the challenge of reading tides and tracking schools. Bring sun protection, polarized sunglasses to spot fish and structure, a hat, and a camera. Wear shoes that handle wet decks and be ready for muddy water and splashes.

Before you go, check local rules for where you plan to fish. Regulations can change, and they may include fishing license or permit needs, open seasons, and gear restrictions. If you plan to keep fish, review harvest rules such as allowed methods and any size or bag limits. When in doubt, ask your captain or local authorities for guidance.
