  Had a great scalloping trip on a challenging weather day with Gene

  4 Hour Scalloping Trip (AM) on August 2, 2025 • 6 adults • 2 children

  Captain Gene managed to give us a great scalloping trip on a weather day that could have been a disaster. We had a huge front of lightning storms light up the whole area about the time we were supposed to set off, and we were pretty sure we were going to have to cancel. Gene managed to push our start time by 3:00 hours and we headed out once the front had passed and it was safe. We still got the full time in and it turned into a really nice day. We were all first time scallopers and several in the party were not such strong swimmers to dive down in the deeper areas, but we still managed to get enough scallops to make a meal out of it (and would have gotten a lot more if we were more experienced and dedicated). Gene was very understanding and moved us to a shallower spot when several of our party were not able to get down to the deeper spots. Boat was very clean and well-equipped for scalloping. Adult easter egg hunt with a delicious reward at the end...

  Tough day for fishing with windy and hot conditions but Captain Gene worked hard to get us on fish and even extended the time a little to try another location. Nice boat with everything we needed to fish shallow water and plenty of quality equipment and tackle. He was very patient with the 8 and 9 year olds we brought along. It’s obvious that he knows the area and loves the job.

  Great half-day fishing

  1/2 Day Fishing - 12:00 PM on April 21, 2021 • 2 adults

  Capt. Gene was a great and we had a fun day on the water. He took us to several spots to catch Redfish and was patient in helping me (a novice) to bait my line and cast. At his recommendation we moved our reservation up a few hours earlier to avoid higher winds in the afternoon and he was really accommodating to our schedule. Good music, great communication and an easy transaction to give us a fun day on the water in Cedar Key. We’ll be back and hope that the fish are biting! I highly recommend booking with G. Fin.

  Great day on the water

  3/4 Day Fishing Trip on March 23, 2020 • 3 adults

  This was my families 1st fishing charter experience. It is so hard to book when you are unsure of so much. I'm glad I got past that and booked with Captain Gene with G. FIN Fishing. The boat was very spacious and fun to ride in. Captain Gene was great to be around and he really took care of us. Didn't catch the trout we were hoping for, but caught many other fish. The highlight was the 20 + pound 3 foot Florida Gar. He put up a fight. He worked hard at moving us around trying to find the hot spot. We will definitely go again with G. FIN. Fishing.

  Capt Gene knows the water around Cedar Key. Caught Spotted Trout and thoroughly enjoy our time on the water. All previous reviews are accurate for this 5 star charter. A must when you visit this quaint Old Florida town.
