Captain Mike is a USCG-licensed captain and New York State licensed fishing guide specializing in vertical jigging for trout throughout the Finger Lakes. He spends countless hours each season on Cayuga and Owasco Lakes, learning fish movements and refining his jigging techniques. Mike’s approach is hands-on—you’re not just along for the ride. He enjoys teaching anglers how to locate fish, work a jig, and experience the strike for themselves. His results speak for themselves, including 1st-place Lake Trout and 1st-place Rainbow Trout finishes at the 2026 Owasco Lake Derby, both caught vertical jigging.     September fishing trip

    5 Hour Trip (AM)

    We have chartered in Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, South Carolina and New York yet these folks are hands down the best! I used to think we had to check NFL games, hockey games and NASCAR off the bucket list (and believe me, we did). And then I saw the sheer joy with charter fishing (FLX Fish - they absolutely ADORE YOU) and Finger Lakes time. That’s when I realized it’s not (and never will be) about sitting in a stadium or grandstand. It’s about experiencing and BEING IN the moment. Being present for ALL OF IT. We literally just got home Monday and already I’m itching to go back. Knowledgable Captain. Always a good time.

    Mike’s a great guide! My mom and I caught a boatload of lake trout and rainbow trout, as well as a gorgeous brown trout. We had an amazing time and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. 100% would book again—top-notch charter!

Owasco lake Derby

What a weekend at the Owasco Lake Derby! Despite some tough wind that made fishing challenging, we put plenty of fish on the deck, including lake trout, rainbow trout, and a brown trout. In the end, it all paid off with two first-place finishes! ? 1st Place Lake Trout – 12.6 lbs ? 1st Place Rainbow Trout – 8.05 lbs Every fish was caught vertical jigging. It was an awesome weekend on the water, and we’re already looking forward to the next one. Thanks to everyone who helped put on a great derby, and congratulations to all the anglers who competed!
