Sean Healy5.0Another great year on the Slapshot!
5 Hr – Inshore Morning FishingMy sons and I have been fishing with Kevin on the Slapshot for seven years. Our sons are now 17, 14, and 13 and Kevin is still provides the absolute best experience. He watches the weather prior to the charter to make sure it’ll be safe and enjoyable. He checks in a few days prior to see what you’re looking for out of your experience….size vs. quantity and selects a departure time that aligns with your goals for the day. The departure at the maritime center in Quincy couldn’t be easier with the gangway located just feet from the parking lot. He reviews age appropriate safety features with parents and kids alike. He’s prepared and timely with his live well stocked with maks and a variety of lures and hookups for whatever is happening on the water. He has an endless supply of rods, energy, and even more patience. He lets the kids do the work, guiding them and helping them at every turn with zero frustration. He’s genuinely a very nice guy who wants you to have the best experience possible, regardless of your age or experience level. I cannot say enough good things about Kevin and Slapshot charters. Bonus points if you’re looking to talk hockey on the water. Five stars all around and we can’t wait for next year!

Tom Saltonstall5.0Captain O'Brien Put Us on the Big Ones Yet Again!
5 Hr – Inshore Morning FishingIf you are looking to go screaming across the harbor in a high-speed dual console, chugging a case of brews while you are getting bounced around and soaking wet, scattering the fish as you pull up to groups of other boats with music blaring, then Slapshot Charters is not for you. If you want to have a great experience, learning a lot about the harbor and the magnificent Morone Saxatilis (Striped Bass), and having a lot of relaxed, rejuvenating fun at the same time, then maybe you will be lucky enough to book a trip aboard SLAPSHOT with Captain Kevin O'Brien at the helm. Because, for three very good reasons, you can't experience a better, small craft Striper charter trip anywhere in the Northeast: 1) Captain O'Brien blends old school angling know-how, modern technology and his extensive knowledge and decades of fishing experience with current information from an extensive, relationship-based network of full-time commercial fishers and lobstermen and women. These are long-term colleagues and friends - - not specious, competing charter operators - - who provide him with accurate, real-time intel enabling him, along with his own smarts and seasoned instincts, to put his clients ON THE FISH EVERY TIME; 2) Skipper O'Brien is a salt-of-the-sea, responsible, friendly and good-humored professional who is a patient and extraordinarily effective teacher. Whether you are a novice angler or someone like me who has been fishing for Striped Bass for eons and think you know it all, you will leave SLAPSHOT a better angler when you disembark than you were when the boat shoved off - - even if you get skunked on the trip (especially when the fish are all around you, Stripers can at times be exceptionally finnicky, and no one can MAKE them eat!); and 3) SLAPSHOT is a beautiful boat providing a first-rate, stable platform for 3-4 adults to fish from, with fighting chairs when seas are bumpy and shelter when the weather turns bad. Captain O'Brien maneuvers her with exemplary and absolutely safe helmsmanship, skills rarely seen since the days when schooners ruled these waters. With two helm stations, this Captain somehow manages to keep SLAPSHOT on the fish while simultaneously and seemingly seamlessly reading his electronics, chumming the Stripers, and making sure the live bait swimming on three rigs isn't tangling the lines. In summary, our small cadre of avid Striper anglers has fished with Captain O'Brien dozens of times during the past three years, and none of us has ever been disappointed.

5 Hr – Inshore Morning FishingKevin is the MAN when it comes to fishing Boston Harbor and surrounding area. I have been on countless charters with Kevin. Nobody works harder to get fish in the boat. Kevin knows every knook and cranny and has uncanny to find where the fish are. One of the other aspects that keep me coming back to Kevin is the way he treats his customers. No matter what stupid thing you may do, he doesn’t get mad or scold. I have used a number of charter captains and Kevin is by far the best.
