Dauphin Island, United States
- Background
- Captain Mike is a native of Dauphin Island and he fishes the salt waters southbound of Dauphin Island and the Gulf Shores. He's on the water every day and has the ability to go straight to the location of the big fish. The captain keeps a heavy interest in what fish is biting where and who's catching what. Saltwater runs deep through his veins. He loves to catch and prepare all kinds of seafood, so ask him about some recipes! The captain can also hook you up with local "catch 'n' cook" restaurants or send you to the best taxidermist. He takes pride in giving newcomers the full experience of what it's like to live and fish on the Gulf Coast. Captain Mike loves to teach fishing techniques and target specific species as well as catch his own baits by cast net and pull his trawling nets for wild Shrimp and sea life. He loves various activities related to boating, shrimping, and fishing. In his own words: "This 'Big Water' is my playground and it's time to play."
- Techniques
- One of the captain's favorite things to do is pull the bait net behind the boat to start the fishing day off. This gives him a variety of options. He likes to take the live bait and inshore fish for Trout and Redfish early in the morning. Then, he would go offshore and see what's biting on the bottom of the rigs and the reefs. Captain Mike also likes to float bait on the top water for pelagic fish, as well as search for fish hitting the top of the water with birds feeding on the smaller bait. The captain is keen on deep dropping for Snapper, Amberjack, and Grouper. If he sees something floating in the water, he checks it for Mahi Mahi or Tripletail. Then he trolls back in for King and Spanish.
