I myself have had the pleasure of growing up here in Everglades City born and raised as a 4th generation fisherman. I have been fishing my whole life from fishing the backcountry and creeks of the Glades as a very young boy with my grandfather to fishing the nearshores of the Gulf both recreationally and commercially. When you come for a day of fishing the only thing I ask is that you have fun and of course catch fish and by the end of the day I like my clients to be my friends.

    Fishing Everglades with Captain Travis

    Full Day Trip2 adults

Very easy to book and Captain Travis very pleasant to set up the trip. My main goal was for my wife to have a good time and experience some “hands-on” of what the Everglades has to offer. We seemed to get off to a bit of a slow start because Captain Travis insisted on procuring the right bait. Boy did that extra work pay off though. Correct bait and Captain’s knowledge of local tide characteristics put us on the bite. It seemed like we were catching more fish than everyone else. Plenty of snook and sizable Redfish. Captain Travis delivered just what we asked for. He even recommended a restaurant to cook fresh caught fish - delicious. Best day of our Florida trip!!

    Response from Captain

    Capt. Travis - The Best

    Half Day Trip4 adults

Two retired couples spent a wonderful half day trip with Travis. Besides being well versed in the area and fishing, he shared interesting knowledge about the environment and wildlife. We caught 17 fish of all sorts. It was relaxing, exciting and totally worthwhile. It’s our hope to return next year and give Travis a call.

    Response from Captain

Thank you, Cheryl! I had a great time with you guys and am looking forward to fishing with y’all in the future.

    Full Day Trip2 adults

Capt Travis was a great guide that worked hard to keep us on the fish. We caught multiple species and was even able to keep enough for dinner. Thank you Travis.

I’m glad you guys have a good time and can’t wait to do it again soon! I hope you enjoyed your birthday fishing trip.

Fishing is on fire?

Oct 2, 2020 • Everglades City
Hello to all my fellow anglers and future anglers. As we come into the late summer and early fall coming into October, the snook are making there ways back up the passes and inlets. Heading back into the rivers and backcountry to feed and live in the small creeks and rivers. To me October is one of the best months to fish down here in Everglades city and Chokoloskee area! Redfish love to eat a fresh live shrimp hanging down about 6 to 10 inches from the bottom suspended by a simple popping cork hooked with a number 3 or number 4 circle hook, or my favorite a regular old hook lol suspended off of about 3 to 4 feet of 30 to 40 pound floral carbon leader, depending on the depth and structure your fishing at the time? Permit have been another reason October is always one, out of 4 of MY favorite months to fish in Everglades city/Chokoloskee area! Fishing is great in the winter as well but nothing like October! As far as catching permit. It’s as simple as easing around and looking along the flats for there fins about 4 to 10 inches out of the water and any type of structure or bait as you make your way into deeper water. It never hurts to have some live baby blue crabs on a number 6 circle hook with 40 to 50 pound floral carbon leader when it comes to permit, also cobia and triple tail have been eating crabs as well but they will hit a live shrimp or a soft jerk bait at any given time and 9 times out of 10 if your looking for permit, your going to run into a few cobia and or triple tail. And of course the trout are still all over the grass flats as usual. Popping cork and a shrimp or cast a soft rubber paddle tail and you can’t miss a sea trout in these waters! Of course the Goliath grouper have been another super fun fish to catch anywhere from 5 pounds all the way up to 250 pounds! They are all over the place in the rivers and passes, mostly juveniles 5 to 20 pounds on 7ft medium action rods with 20 to 30 pound test and of course 3 or 4ft of floral carbon leader line, but we can always drop down a live 10 pound jack on the heavy Goliath grouper rod and see if we can get a 250 plus pounder to the surface? That’s always super fun and because it is October these fish will be in the area for a while. I hope I was able to help my fellow anglers, so anytime your ready just call and let’s get you booked with ME a 6th generation local native of Everglades city, FL Captain Travis Freeman Steady fishing, an Everglades Tradition.
