6 Hour Trip – Walleye (AM) Erie • 2 adultsCaptain David was great. The conditions weren’t great, water was muddy from the day before, so he took us a lot further east to better water. We caught our limit and loved our time with David. I especially appreciated his communication before our trip. David took care of everything! As he was putting the gear away before we headed back I commented that the banana i had earlier didn’t sit well with the swells we had. That’s when he told us that bananas on boats are bad luck, a superstition that has persisted for centuries. he said some captains say “no bananas” on their forbidden stuff to bring onboard. Well we had great luck on the fish and no mishaps even though I brought bananas onboard. My advice though is to leave your bananas behind! 🤣

Captain Dave was so nice and incredibly helpful with our two kids—he made them feel comfortable, excited, and involved the whole time. Everything was well-organized, the boat was clean, and safety was clearly a priority. Best of all, we were catching fish and having fun the entire trip! This was such a special way to celebrate, and we made memories we’ll never forget. Highly recommend

6 Hour Trip – Walleye (AM) Erie • 1 adultI have fished all over the U.S. with various charters booked through Fishingbooker.com. I have had some really great trips but really, none have compared to the day on the water with Captain Dave! The gear was in great shape, rods and reels were well balanced, and the conversation was great! HOWEVER, the conversation was likites because every other phrase was, “Oh! There’s one! Fish on!”. We were on fish within 20 minutes of leaving the harbor and it didn’t stop. All around, a REALLY GREAT day!!

?? **Sunday, August 16th Fishing Report - Family, Fish, and Fun on Erie!** ??
Earlier this summer, Andy and his son Drew were scheduled to fish with me while traveling home from a baseball tournament in Cooperstown. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and a weather delay forced us to reschedule. Fast forward to mid-August, and Andy made the trip back, bringing along his brother Larry and nephew Joe for a great day on Lake Erie! ☀️?
This crew may be seasoned anglers, with plenty of experience chasing salmon on Lake Michigan and targeting walleye and other species in Canada, but fishing Erie with offshore inline planer boards wasn't really part of their playbook. Today turned into a fun learning experience as we worked through the spread, covering the ins and outs of Offshore boards, Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TrueTrip 50s, and Dipsy Divers. ??
We picked up right where we left off yesterday and headed back to the Roller Coasters, where a beautiful grade of fish was waiting for us. ??

Repeat customers George, Rachel, and Kayden jumped aboard BlackH2oDog Charters this morning at East Harbor State Park Marina, and we pointed the bow toward the soon-to-be-rising sun over Kelleys Island. ?☀️
Today's bite was more of a slow pick than a hot-and-heavy chew, but persistence paid off! ??
Early producers included:

? Trolling speed started at **2.2 mph**.
As the wind laid down, the Dipseys and TruTrips got quiet, so we made a change. Adding **J7s** and **Jointed Flicker Shads**, then bumping the speed up to **2.4 mph**, was exactly what the walleyes wanted. That adjustment quickly put **9 more fish in the cooler!** ?????????

First-timers on Lake Erie and first-timers in the boat with BlackH2oDog Charters !
Maria and Oscar left West Harbor just after sunrise, and we pointed the bow east in search of Lake Erie Walleye. ??
Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s earned today's hardware ?, running 43' and 45' back with crawler harnesses. The fish definitely showed a preference for butterfly blades over Colorados, while BADMO LURES small gold tandem blades put a few more quality walleyes in the box.
On the Dipsey Divers, a #3 setting running 47' and 58' back produced on both a J9 and harness presentation.
The Off Shore Tackle Company OR-12 planer boards were a key part of the program. The hottest setup was a J9 running 20/50 with a 3 oz Guppy Weight, consistently finding active fish.
One thing we didn't mind seeing today? No sheephead and no white perch! ?
The result was a great box of Lake Erie Walleye headed for the table, soon to be coated in local favorite Bayside Provisions Batter & Cracker Meal. Nothing beats fresh Erie walleye after a successful day on the water.

Casting for Walleye

? David and Kyle from D&W Excavating were up for a family vacation but managed to sneak away for a Lake Erie Islands Walleye casting charter to kick off their weekend!
We targeted shallow rock piles in 8-12 feet of water. Between Walleye bites, the Catfish and a few large sheephead kept everyone on their and their persistence paid off as they boxed a nice limit and even added a couple of quality bluegill to the mix.
The hot setup for the day was gold-bladed harnesses paired with 3/4 oz weights.

Solo Walleye with Guest Captain

Another great client experience on Lake Erie with a well-traveled and seasoned angler aboard today!
Running a solo trip, I asked Tim if he'd mind if my longtime captain friend, Terry, joined us for the day. Without hesitation, Tim said, "Absolutely." We met at the East Harbor Marina docks and pointed the boat north out of West Harbor in search of active fish.
It didn't take long. On our very first drift, the rods started firing and we put our first walleye on ice. The opening drift produced three fish on gold harnesses paired with 1 oz weights.
We made a long east-to-west drift beneath Kelleys Island, picking through a mixed bag of fish but finding very few legal walleyes. After a slight adjustment to our drift line and presentation, the program came together. Running 3/4 oz weights at a splash-count cadence, we began steadily putting quality walleyes in the boat.
Before long, everyone was into the action. The bite became so consistent that we were releasing fish to grow and fight another day. Great conversation, great rod handling, and another reminder of why Lake Erie continues to be the Walleye Capital of the World.
