Captain Joe Tripp has been fishing for more than 50 years. He loves helping beginners catch their first fish just as much as taking veterans out to cross off another species off their list. Captain Joe is flexible when it comes to his customers' needs and adapts well to the ongoing conditions.

    Great day with Captain Joe

    3/4 Day Trip2 adults

We had a great 3/4 day fishing and sandbar experience with Captain Joe from Off the Charts out of Stock Island. It was an absolutely beautiful day on the water, and Captain Joe made sure we made the most of time. We headed west and hit several spots, ending up catching 9 different species — a mix that kept things exciting. We kept enough lane snapper for a boat-to-table dinner at Hogfish afterward, which was the perfect ending to a fun day. In addition to the fishing, we stopped at a sandbar to relax and soak it all in, a nice place for lunch and a swim.... and to enjoy those great blue and turqouise waters only found down in the Keys. Before we headed back we got a tour of a few channels to take in the birds (is there really a fly heron button aboard boats these days?) and mangroves — a great balance of sites and laid-back island vibes. Joe is friendly, experienced, and clearly knows these waters and the local area inside and out. He consistently checked in to make we were having a great experience and adjusted the plan to fit what we wanted to do. And to top it off, we enjoyed chatting up bands and listening to a few fun playlists — all making a for a great day on the water. Highly recommend Joe and Off the Charts Entertainment if you’re looking for a fun, well-run, and memorable day.

    Captain Joe Tripp Rocks!!

    Half Day Trip2 adults

We had a 4 hour fishing tour, Capt Joe was right on time, he was friendly and fun, had a cooler with ice and great music and most importantly, he knew where the fish were! We caught fish the entire trip and got this nice Spanish Mackrel near the end, lots of Snapper varieties as well, it was so much fun, will look him up again next time we go! And he was affordable compared to some others that are very high dollar, we really appreciated this trip.

    Response from Captain

What a fantastic day! You guys were awesome! We can’t wait to host you again!

Fishing with Joe Tripp of Off The Charts on the Hustler.

Full Day Trip – Columbus Day

4 of us decided to hit Key West for a one day fishing trip. We chose Joe Tripp, the singing police officer with the Key West PD, because we heard that he was taking out charters. We met Joe at Cow Key Marina at about 8 am and returned at 5 pm with lots of big yellowtail snapper and two tunas. It was a great day. Joe is an excellent guide and charter captain and a very pleasant guy with which to spend the day. We will definitely be fishing with Joe again!

    Response from Captain

Thanks, Steve, for choosing Off the Charts! We had a great time and “cook your catch” at the marina was delicious. What a fun group of guys! Y’all have the technique now, so we’re looking forward to hosting you again and adding to the variety! Capt Joe

Spring into Summer!

May 25, 2023 • Stock Island
As we move into the sunny summer weather that the Keys are famous for, we enjoy some of the best fishing of the entire year. The wind has started to lay down, making longer runs to often inaccessible areas possible. Many species migrate back-and-forth to their spawning areas, making concentrations of large specimens easier to find. Grouper season has opened. They are a great tasting, violent fighting fish, with an insatiable appetite. Another fish that never stop eating has started to arrive. Mahi-Mahi, also known as dolphin (fish, not the mammal) are tasty and great fun, especially when schooling. We recommend at least a six hour trip to give you the best shot at one of these awesome fish. Let us make your Key West experience special too!

Winter in Key West!

Jan 20, 2023 • Stock Island
The winter migration brings a variety of offshore fish in seach of food. As the ballyhoo arrive in greater numbers, so do the fish. Sailfish, mackerel, wahoo and tuna stay within easy reach. There’s usually a few mahi around to make a “slam” within reach. On a full day trip, we may spend a little time in the morning catching live baits, as we did this day. It makes a difference! Let us help make your Key West vacation special too!

Offshore Summer!

Aug 27, 2022 • Stock Island
We’ve had a great summer so far, with plenty of mahi, some wahoo and tuna crushing our trolling baits/lures! As the hot, calm weather persists, the fishing moves further offshore, but we have still been making some fine catches! Let us help make your Key West vacation special too!

Summer mahi in Key West!

Jun 21, 2022 • Stock Island
Once the winter winds start laying down for the late spring and summer, the dolphin/mahi become a somewhat consistent target for us. Trolling with Ballyhoo and lures alike, we find them in various depths, from the reef, to weigh out at Wood’s Wall, where the bottom drops quickly from 900 to 1800 feet. Typically, the later in the summer it gets, the deeper we have to run to find them, but it’s always good to keep an eye out for some kind of floating structure or circling and diving birds. Trolling can often be boring for the impatient, but when you get the bite, it can turn into mayhem quickly, so anglers have to be on their toes! The dolphin/mahi tend to run in schools and often follow a hooked fish to the boat, where they can be caught one after another on light spinning tackle for loads of fun. Trolling allows you to cover a lot of area, and burns a lot of expensive fuel, but it can also keep you somewhat cooled off by creating a light breeze in the nonexistent summer winds. Make plans to come dolphin/mahi fishing in Key West. Let us help make your Key West vacation special!

Family Time!

Jan 2, 2021 • Stock Island
When you’ve got the little ones on-board, keeping them busy makes a great trip for all. We knew the wind was going to be tough, so we planned for spending our four hour tour in some of our sheltered “spots”. Since there were more than six passengers, Captain Mike from Low Tide Charters joined us with his beautiful boat. The kids and parents alike stayed busy with non-stop snapper action. Even the four-year-old caught some! Come visit soon!

Winter in Key West!

Dec 13, 2020 • Stock Island
Destiny and I took these wonderful sister/brother combo from North Carolina out for a fun day of fishing. They started off rookies and ended up in sibling rivalry mayhem, bailing snappers one after the other- Mutton’s, Yellowtails and Lanes. After getting plenty for dinner, it was on to some light tackle trolling. Both Spanish and Ceros made an appearance, a blast on 15# spinning gear. Finally we made a quick pass over the reef and into tuna territory. The tuna sounded before we got to them, but we did manage a brutally strong Jack Cravelle, some bonito and a big mystery fish. When we get great winter weather like this, we take advantage of it. Come visit us soon!
