Thanks to Antonio and his crew for their professionnalisme. Except we did not catch anything all was perfect. Not their fault - Mauritius in winter is not the best period. But when returning to the base we got a strike…an espadon ! We saw him jump over the water. Fantastic. But no luck at the end as the fish managed to leave us…no doubt I will be pleased to experience a new game with Antonio and his team. Laurent.

First things first, Capt. Antionio and the crew, their tackle and expertise plus their boat is first class. There were 4 of us on a half day trip first thing on a Mnday morning after arriving in Mauritius early Sunday evening.  I had already emailed Capt. Antionio a couple of times prior to our arrival so knew exactly what time, where to meet and exactly what the cost was.  We arrived at the beach just before 7am and saw that the boat was already there, one quick wave and a small boat was brought over to us to take us to the larger vessel. We boarded to a nice warm welcome and were soon on our way.  As soon as we passed the reef the tackle went out with the guys explaining exactly what and why they were doing it and we started trawling for the fish.  Our problem was that the fish didn’t want to play, not a nibble. The crew were on the radio to the other boats in the area constantly asking for updates on where the fish were but out of at least 7 boats out there a total of 2 fish were caught that morning.  It just wasn’t our day but we understood that as there have been many days at home where you don’t get a bite.  Would I recommend these guys, certainly I would and I’ve already persuaded the wife to return next year so if I get the chance to go fshing again then I will be begging these guys to take me out again.

For my second trip to Mauritius it was round 2 at sea on the Marantha hoping to have the same luck as last time when we caught a sailfish- maybe even a marlin this time!
We set off from Le Mourne at 7am for a 6hr trip, luckily the cyclone had moved away from Mauritius so the weather was looking good. Shortly in to the trip we spotted a large group if spinner dolphins which we look as a sign of good luck. Less than an hour later and the captain and French spotted three sail fish to the side of the boat, one came very close but sadly was not interested in our lures on this occasion!
A short while later there was lots of bird activity just over the water- a good sign that bait fish were being chased to the surface by larger fish feeding. So we headed towards the birds and off shot one of the rods, after a short time we reeled in a bonito and kept it for bait. 20 mins later off went 2 rods together and again we reeled in 2 nice bonitos. The lads took in 4 of the rods leaving 3 rods, 2with live bait and 1 with a lure. After a short time the middle rod screamed off!! French jumped on the rod and the line was peeling off 100mph! The lads shouted marlin and it was clear a strong fish had taken our bonito, after about a minute the marlin jumped about 60mtrs from the boat. Unfortunately the luck was not with us and the line went slack, the marlin was gone but when we reeled in the bonito we could see that it was not attached to the hook, the marlin had the bonito in its mouth and ran-it was just bad luck!
The crew tried their hardest to get us on the fish after the lost marlin, we put our last2 bonito out- 1 set with a weight to pick up fish feeding on the bottom and one left out on the outrigger. After an hour we reeled in the bonito to find a half eaten fish, probably from a shark and the fish on the bottom was untouched.
For the rest of the day we enjoyed the trolling but there was to be no more action on the sea that day.
Overall another great experience with Marantha and would highly recommend anyone fishing Mauritius, just a shame the luck was not with us that day.
All the best to the crew until next time
Rob

Well for a big catch you need to take some risk so our one innitial catch a 2.5Kg tuna ended up as a life bite right away.
Pulling it thru the Mauritious waters for many hours and hoping for the best is what happend on that sunny day. Luck was not on our site so at the end it was the bite for our dinner. Yet still to large for us three.
The sea has its own plans clearly but the crew and the equipment is sure ready for the big catch.

I went to Mauritius to fish and the airline misplaced my rods for the first 10 days of my trip 2 week trip but thanks to Capt Antonio and his crew and the Maranatha my fishing experience wasn’t a total right off.  Capt Antonio was very quick to reply to emails and was able to get us out for a 3/4 day trip.  Two of the people I meet from my resort had never been deep sea fishing before, but thanks to the crew we were able to get them into the chair and land some dorado.  I have fished almost everywhere I have traveled and I have to say that the crew were top notch and were constantly searching the horizon for birds and signs of fish activity.  On our way out Capt Antonio noticed a pod of whales so he also took the opportunity to try and get us as close as he could so that we could get some great pictures to just add to the experience.  I have to say that you never know what you might catch or if you will catch anything but the crew and Capt. Antonio will try what ever they can to put you onto fish vs some boats that might just swap out a lure or two.

Came aboard at 7am ,the boat was perfect and ready for fishing. Within 10minutes of leaving the beach the lures went out, within the hour we’d caught 3 Bonito, within the next hour 1 skip Jack tuna. The captain was constantly looking for the fish and soon got us into a couple of large tuna. Two weighing 30lbs+, went a bit quiet for a little while, but was enjoying the sun and view of the south coast. Plenty of food and drink on board to keep us going. After a bite to eat my wife caught another large tuna as did I. Finishing off the day with yet another skip Jack. Great experience, fantastic day, would 100% recommend these guys, very friendly and know the water. We had also looked at others on the island but kept coming back to maranatha big game fishing and I’m glad we did! We’ll never forget this experience, thanks guys!

Me and my 9 year old son had a 3/4 of a day trip on a beautiful sunny day.
I’ve been on fishing trips before in Mauritius where the crew don’t interact and you become a complete passenger. But this trip with captain Antonio and his son was the opposite, they explained evey tackle change and made you feel completely involved in the whole day. Trolling we caught 7 Bonitos and 2 yellow fin tuna (up to about 6lbs) then the crew decided to swich to a live bait - which was a great call as it was soon taken by a huge marlin which was an 11/10 on the adrenalin scale! Unfortunately it jumped and spat the hook, but we guessed it to be 400lbs.
An amazing day all round and I would 100% book the Maranantha on our next visit here, thank you boys.

Had a great day out yesterday on the boat with Antonio his son Luciano and France. As the captain said in his report it was a tough morning with very little signs of feeding fish and no bites. A Marlin hit one of the lures without a word of warning late on in the trip but spat the hook unfortunately!

All was quiet again beiefly untill three sailfish were on the hunt and started attacking our lures, two were hooked and one was landed so tough but a great result in the end.

Antonio and his crew were very professional, knowledgable and nice friendly guys who i would recommend to anyone wanting to fish in Mauritius!

The next question is when can we go again?!

Our fishing trip on board the Maranatha was one of the highlights of our trip to Mauritius.  Captain Antonio and his crew provided outstanding service, were extremely knowledgeable and provided excellent instruction to our novice group. They spoke perfect English so there was no language barrier. We caught 12 Bonito and at the very end of our trip, our 15 year old son caught a 175 yellowfin tuna!. Our son’s goal was to catch something “big” and thanks to the excellent skills of the Maranatha crew, he achieved his goal, something he will always remember. He proudly wears his Maranatha tee shirt and is quick to show pictures of his fishing success.

We highly recommend the Maranatha and it’s excellent crew.  We hope to go fishing with them again!

Capt Antonio and his son Luciano were great hosts and knowledgeable locals, they knew their fishing and were also happy to chat about Mauritius in general.
Half a day goes too fast but we were happy to pull in a decent sized spearfish and a dorado as well as a couple small mackerel just after we hit the water. I would recommend a full day out if you have the time.
The boat was well equipped and we didn’t have any issues or complaints, I would certainly go out with them again next time.

I can not recommend the crew of the Maranatha highly enough. They were good fun, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English, we had a great day. We caught 15 Skip Jack tuna ranging from about 5lb to 12lb. We used two as bait for Shark and Marlin both baits were excellently presented but unfortunately we did not hook into either species but it wasn’t for the lack of trying or effort from the crew. Hey that’s fishing at the end of the day ! It’s also an excellent reason to return and I would use the Maranatha again without question.
I shall be recommending FishingBooker to the guys in the office upon my return to work as I think it’s been an excellent service from start to finish.
Thank you for arranging this all.
